Mendelssohn: The String Quintets
Doric String Quartet Timothy Ridout, viola Chandos (2022), via Qobuz A new release from the Doric Quartet. It’s nice, but I find their tone a bit rough. I prefer the Leipziger Quartet’s performance. IMG_1614.jpg

Jupiter, Thomas Dunford Qobuz 24/96  What a joy, what a power, what a finesse! I was listening to 'Anamorfosi', one of my absolute favourite albums (Le Poème Harmonique), and this was a Roon suggestion. Lea Desandre is a marvellous mezzo-soprano, Dunford, also lutist, conducts his highly enthusiastic all star band (with Jean Rondeau!), and the sound is really great. I'm thrilled!

Mid-twentieth-century compositions by American composers Elie Siegmeister (the composer-conducted Symphony No. 3) and William Mayer (Overture for An American, Essay for Brass and Winds, and Country Fair). Orignally released on vinyl by CRI (Composers Recordings Inc.), with a later CD-R release by New World Records. The same Siegmeister performance was also released on CD by Citadel (along with symphonies by Roger Goeb and Homer Keller).
