Default New LP125m review in latest Stereophile

Just picked up December's Stereophile and saw there is a review of the LP125m none SE version. Although the reviewer had some tube failure initially the review is very good and as can be expected it lands in Class A. The LP125 is compared to the Sim Audio Moon W7 which was rated Class A in Stereophile and the reviewer states that in many aspects the LP125m is a better more musical amp. He summerized with guess what... "It Just Sounds Right!"

Like we didn't already know.

Ronenash.......I just finished reading that review this evening. Even with the hum problem and tube failures Robert Deutsh still managed to be impressed, although it doesn't take a rocket scientist to come up with that last line. I saw it coming from a mile away.

Unless the guy buys the review sample, it doesn't count as a positive review in my book. A mediocre review is where the guy says it's the best thing since Edison.

Ron,

I'm running LP140s with a GAT pre... and hope you'd put them in that same category.

I also have both the monos on cheater plugs due to a substantial hum issue. My P350 needs one also. Their pre-amps don't seem to need that treatment. CJD says that's okay. My second question to you is why does their stuff have this problem. Is there some design trade off that makes their amps more subject to ground loops?

Thanks,
Bob

I am not using cheater plugs with the LP125m and have no problem. The cheater plugs usually hide problems in other areas. In the Stereophile review John Atkinson mentions that he did not have any issue when doing the technical tests on the LP125m.

CJ does not put filters in their equipment because it degrades sound quality.

Regarding your first comment the LP140 are closer to the LP125m SE with the teflon caps and Vishay resistor upgrade. The model tested by Stereophile was the basic and cheaper model.

I heard these with the ET3 (also non-SE) last week. They sounded very musical.

Thanks Ron. The loop is probably a voltage differential with something else plugged into the preamp. The cheater plugs are fine. Seems to me I've read that CJD does not like filters and stuff like star grounds as they degrade the sound. Good for them.
