Grandioso C1X Solo
In a somewhat surprising turn of events, I have placed an order for the new Grandioso C1X Solo PreAmp.
After living without an analog preamp for nearly 5 years, I recently had the opportunity to perform demos of the VAC Master Tube Pre and an Esoteric C02X Solidstate Pre. It was an interesting shootout. My brain told me I wanted the VAC Master to win. I was feeling like I wanted ‘tubes’ in my system and it is a highly thought of, very well reviewed Preamp from a well known manufacturer. It did elevate the sound of my system. Enter Godzilla. My good buddy lent me his Esoteric C-02X preamp to do side by side comparisons with. I listened to both of them nightly for a week. In the end, they both added a density to the sound stage with more clarity. BUT, the C-02X provided much more realistic bass. The C-02X is discontinued and has seemingly been replaced, in the pricing hierarchy at least, by the Grandioso C1X Solo. The MSRP of both is within $2,000 of each other. After getting confirmation / direction from the Esoteric National sales director on the ‘voicing’ of the C1X, I placed my order. Color me excited.

I've always been impressed with the entire Grandioso/Esoteric line.
I know most go for the DACs and transports, but to this day some of the finest front-end pre and amps I've heard are from them. Built like a tank within a brick shithouse within a concrete nuclear bunker. Amps have endless control over speakers and the pres are just silky smooth (best Zohan impression). Does not suck.
