Default Availability of parts!

Availability of parts!
I'm in the market for an XLR and phono stage board for my DC-330.

The XLR card is nearly impossible to source...

On the contrary, here in Greece Nik. I. Laios the official Accuphase importer/dealer is very friendly!

I have to disagree, at a friends place.... Magico S5, ASR amp, the OPPO 105 knocked the socks off an Accuphase CD player... now it was an older model 500 or 600. I believe if OPPO had a machined aluminium chassis and cost 20x the price everyone would be going gaga over it. I remember when "made in Japan" = c**p, nowadays everything is made in China, and a lot of it is top class. Maybe Ayre stuffed the OPPO feeling the need to modify it?
Unfortunately many judge quality on retail price. I have an Atlas, because I can hear the difference on Vinyl, but I swear by My OPPO on CD/SACD. Just look around at how many hi-end systems have the OPPO as the cd source...quietly without fanfare just there

I forgot to mention I have a Wadia 860, and prefer the OPPO 105.

I think the time has come for Accuphase to ditch the motorized volume pots - since the volume level is now displayed on almost all units with an LCD, it would be simpler and more elegant to implement something like the tuning knob on the Accuphase tuners also for the volume control for integrated amps and pre amps.

Best,
Samuel.

I have a Wadia 381i and tried the Oppo105 a while ago, it could not get even close to the Wadia. I am not saying the Oppo is bad player, for the money it is doing a lot right. But I would never change it for my 381i.

I am also using an Ayre DX-5, which is based on the 83, but cannot be compared to the Oppo eather, much more refined. Only thing that is bothering me a bit on the DX-5 is the noisy drive and flimsy disc tray. fortunitly I only use the Ayre as USB DAC for my streamer, and that works excellent.

Be aware if you audition Ayre equipment, they are notorious for sounding bad when you just connect the to the power supply, it takes a lot of time for them to shine.

Best,

Motorized volume pots ???
Ever heared anything about AAVA (introduced July 2002 with C-2800, since then applied in all integrated amps and pres) ?
