Vicoustic Wavewood acoustic panels

I have been thinking about installing some Vicoustic Wavewood panels in place of some of my ATS acoustic absorption panels in my studio two channel room, specifically two panels at the front of the room (2'x 2' each) and two panels at the back of the room behind my listening position (2' x 4' each).

The Vicoustic Wavewood panels are a combination acoustic absorber and a diffuser. I want to experiment with adjusting the room's acoustics to be a bit more lively. Is anyone here using Vicoustic Wavewood panels in their listening room? If so, please offer some impressions of the performance and the acoustic impact the offer on the room's acoustic signature. I am also interested in how difficult the Wavewood panels are to install and how much weight there is to each panel.

Jeff Whitlock of A/V Solutions uses the Vicoustic Wavewood panels on one wall in his main listening room. I should probably give him a call for some direction. I was hoping a member here might be using them and could shed some light on their performance and installation.

Dan...I use them extensively & can vouch for their performance. The Wavewood panels are an amazingly versatile product. I would consider them to be the best in the Vicoustic range. They will kill the reflection & give you the chest thump without overly deadening the room by absorbing the delicate upper frequencies.

I would best describe them as "live".

My system thread pics will show how I have positioned them. I do use them behind my front loudspeakers.

A relative was totally convinced & ended up using their website's Configurator to quote up the requirement for a dedicated room. He bought enough Wavewood panels to line the entire room.

They also make 1200x600 panels now too.

The panels are light. You can use their adhesive but I chose to use 50mm Velcro tracks. That way you can adjust them just right or remove them entirely without damaging (ripping) their foam backing. A hair dryer will also soften the Velcro enough to peel slowly off the wall.

You can orientate according to taste. They will butt together if you prefer also.

Dan, I've been interested in these panels as well. They look like they would blend very easily with a room's aesthetics. If you install them, I would be very curious to hear your thoughts.

Steve.......Thank you for the information. Using Velcro to mount the panels to the drywall appeals to me more so than using Vicoustic's Flexi Glue. I am not likely to be moving the Wavewood panels around once installed but gluing anything permanently to drywall is unappealing to me. I assume the weight of the Wavewood panels must be relatively light if Velcro securely holds the panels to the wall. Your installation looks fantastic.

Light enough to use Velcro. 2 x 450mm of 50mm for each panel will do it. I do the same for the HEAVIER OmegaWood ceiling panels too. Black Velcro is the best regardless of wall colour because anything that may be visible on angle will be concealed in the shadow line.

Ivan.......I like the look of the Vicoustic Wavewood panels and the fact that the are a combination absorber and diffuser. I have the studio well treated with acoustic panels and bass traps but I have been thinking I can increase the liveliness of the room a few degrees with properly place Wavewood panels in place of acoustic absorption panels without creating any negative effects. The expense is reasonable enough that it encourages me to give it a try. MusicDirect sells Vicoustic panels.
