Please don't take this as a dig against Wilson, but I've always believed that their upper model pricing was a bit ludicrous. Of course you could say that about any number of high end audio brands. Charging as much as they do for these speakers and requiring professional installation/assembly to validate their full and what I consider to be lame warranty, has always been a turnoff to me. Any speaker system that requires precise placement and adjustment to sound what some so-called professional deems as perfect, just doesn't add much overall satisfaction. I wonder if any Wilson owners are afraid to listen to their systems unless they are in their so-called perfect listening position? I can't enjoy my music if I have to sit like a statue while listening. It's all too analytical for me. Oh, by the way, I've heard quite a few Wilson speakers at shows, dealer show rooms and in a few owner's homes, and while I thought they sounded pretty good, I've never been overly impressed. The old Sabrina or new Sabrina X would probably be the only ones I'd seriously consider owning because of their best bang for the buck approach as compared to their other models. And, as far as trying to convince my wife that they'd look great in our home....forget about it. Anyway, I hope you thoroughly enjoy your new toys. We all have our own priorities and systematic approaches in audio component evaluation.

Oh, I have. I personally know a few who have happily moved on from Wilson speakers. I'm also a good friend of a long time and current Wilson dealer. I won't divulge his opinions. I applaud Wilson's supposed quest for audio perfection, but even a cost-no-object, low volume approach will never get them there. It's unachievable now and probably always will be no matter how hard you want to believe it. As audio geeks, we should all be thankful for the variety of options we have in this hobby. |

Aesthetics will always be a highly subjective and personal preference type of a concept. Whether the Wife Acceptance Factor comes into play or not is also not a universal standard.
One thing for sure though, the chances of optimizing each driver with its own module/enclosure where it can be precisely fine tuned to the volume/design/phase/timing/relationship to other modules in the highly modular approach of the Wilson Big Boys has always made perfect sense to me. Driving the cabinet resonance out of the equation and into the sub 20Hz resonance range with the help of advanced polymers/advanced cabinet building materials and techniques is quite an accomplishment. Can't handle the price tag? Wife can't get over the Big Robots in the living room? Don't like the Wilson house sound? All viable and understandable reasons not to engage. Judging by the rather enthusiastic reviews and owner feedback of the Wilson products, there are many happy owners out there. I had the pleasure and experience of going up the Wilson product line some years back. It was a fantastic experience of various Wilson speaker ownership. One better than the next and my local Wilson dealer did a fantastic job of accommodating my needs and desires as well as making the trade up ridiculously easy and impossible to say NO to with full trade in allowance for a vertical upgrade. That experience was and still is unmatched to this day. I may have taken a detour for some time and enjoying the relatively modest and good sounding pair of Harbeth speakers currently but in the famous Hollywood movie phrase.... "I'll BE BACK!" First, you're making an assumption since I never gave this dealer's opinion. Second, is it inconceivable that some Wilson dealers actually carry Wilson speakers to provide their customers with side to side comparisons with other brands they sell? That's a common sales tactic used by many audio dealers. The best audio dealers, in my opinion, offer many different flavors at different price points. The more options, the better. |

I just love products like the XVX as their tour-de-force technology inevitably moves into more modest denizens of the product range. In my view Wilson has earned the privilege of ascending the heights of capability and price over a long period of time. Are they for me? Probably not. Do I care? Nope!
