Omega Speedmaster Dark side of the Moon
It's been a while since I've looked at watches let alone spend a day catching up at the various stores and boutiques to see what's new and hot. Well, today just felt like one of those days to catch up.
I have to say, it some serious self control not to walk out of the store with an Omega Speedmaster Dark side of the Moon edition. I've owned a few Speedmasters before and enjoyed them but this edition is just... Crafted from a single block of black zirconium oxide ceramic and combined with the ultra comfortable and very lightweight strap, The Dark Side is extremely light and ultra comfortable on my wrist. The black zirconium oxide ceramic dial is nicely complemented by a matching ceramic 44.25 mm case with a brushed and polished ceramic case body. I thanked the wonderful saleswoman for showing me this very sexy Dark side of the Moon edition and walked out of the store without my wallet being $12k lighter but it will definitely haunt me in my "watch dreams"... |

Suggest you don't or you will suffer from the "lighter wallet" syndrome.

It's a cool watch, Serge, and I've seen them in person at my local Omega dealer in Walnut Creek, CA. Some cool tech with the ceramic case and co-axial calibre based on the George Daniels escapement.
If you have not held and actually put the watch on, I highly recommend doing that and seeing the watch "in the metal", (er, "in the ceramic, in this case) before plunking down your money. The Co-axial calibre Omegas are notably thicker than non-coaxial caliber movements. For example, the classic Speedys with were based on the 321 or 861 caliber manual-wind movements and because they were not automatics, nicely thin for a chronograph. I was really hot to trot on the Seamaster 300 (the vintage looking one from 2015/16) and was really close to buying one when I went to the dealer only to find out that it was unacceptably thick for my tastes. Personally, the modern Speedy references don't interest me. The only exception is the limited edition "Speedy Tuesday" that was issued in conjunction with Fratello Watches (a European watch blog). The Speedy I would really like to own is a nice, clean vintage 145.022 reference with the 861 caliber movement....on a nice dark brown distressed and aged leather strap. Yeah, baby....

Dark and Grey side of the moon are fabulous especially the column wheel 5000 series movement.
That said a pre-moon Speedmaster with a 321 column wheel movement and a lollipop second hand is “Da Bomb”! |
