Hi,
WA Acoustical Diodes: Has anyone compared the WA ADs to Critical Mass LS speaker footers, which have received high accolades on the WBForum? I have Wilson X1s and believe footers could be a significant improvement, but would like to know what the opinions/experience of others are before taking the dive. |

Update:
Installed the WA AD spikes yesterday and listened last night. Wife, otherwise occupied in room, stated after about an hour that the system was sounding even better and could not understand how 'feet' could make that difference. IDK either, even after reading and researching the various 'best' footers BUT a quickly evident improvement is readily heard - and I believed the system was at it's best before. BTW, these are on an older Wilson = the Grand Slamm v3. Last edited by dbeau; 10-23-2021 at 03:29 PM. |

As I understand it with the AD the diode is not supporting. You have a spike length, all thread length, and nut, in addition to the diode. In this arrangement the contact with the floor is minimized and vibrational energy is dissipated through the diode. With the CMS footers the floor contact is much greater, there is no mechanical coupling by means of a thread into the bottom of the speaker, and no diode. It is an all together different method of vibration control more similar to Stillpoints. I would expect both methods to be quite effective. Best Charles p.s. If you claim to have made such a comparison please send along pics of your system demonstrating the comparison. We have been through this with Stillpoints in another thread. Of interest is that Jacob Heilbrunns/TAS reviewed the AD spikes with conclusion that they are not a tweak but necessary and is now reviewing/comparing the new Stillpoint Ultra 7s that he already is impressed with. A published TAS review should be forthcoming that will be interesting to read.

I did put the ADs on my Wilson X1s and it made an immediate and evident improvement in detail, clarity and natural tone. I did not wait for Stillpoint as can not afford the difference in cost, i.e. ADs $400 each and Sillpoint 7s $1,400 each.
If cost is important to you, you should be very gratified with the Wilson ADs. |

Well, absolute congrats to both Tullman and j3brow! I have never heard the Sasha DAW but I know it to be a great speaker. The difference between one Wilson and another is not all that much, truth be known. That's a wonderful thing because you can find contentment in it and enjoy the music. I think if there is one quality I like is their ability to almost have a limitless dynamic range. They are difficult to overload always retaining their composure. They sound good at any sound level, maybe not the best but always very good and you settle in just enjoying the beautiful music they make. To Tullman, you will enjoy knowing the difference between the excellent original spikes and the AD's when they finally arrive.
