Default New Tannoy vs Vintage Tannoy

Imagine the shock when a friend of mine told me yesterday evening that someone SOLD off the new Tannoy Westminster Royal SE because it does not sound as good as his Vintage/Original Westminsters!!!

The new Tannoys were barely less than 2 months old!

I dont know if anyone had this experience before but certainly, I dont! Anyone care to share or comment on the above?

Cheers!

Jerry.......That seems a bit bizaar to me to part with the Westminster Royal SE before it has had enough playing time to become thoroughly broken in, but then that is just my opinion. I have not heard either speaker. It makes me wonder how much of a loss he took.

Newer Tannoy's have flatter frequency response curves, he must prefer the old school Tannoy coloured sound. I redesigned my HPD-385A crossovers so they sound more like modern Tannoy.

Jerry,

I have had a few people tell me that the new ones are not as good. They say it is no longer made in the same factory, the wood is cheaper, the magnets are cheaper etc. I don't know how much of it is posturing by old fogies and how much is substance though...

So much so that he's fed up !...with the North American consumer market ! -dealers etc ,, he ignores it/ them { this end of the Market }
concentrates on pro and commercial
