Default I just can't choose !

Well, my wife did not say anything but I know she must be upset.
Now my listening room looks a bit weird.

All this discussion about Dan's new 275 gave me the will to put back my large ESL in my main system. I had removed them to make room for the PMC EB1i, mostly because the acoustics of my room were absolutely not compatible with the clarity of the ESL speakers.
I connected the Lyngdorf RP1 and made all the measurements.
The sound of the Finals is just wonderful.
Unbeatable for voices, speed, clarity and transparency.
I still love the EB1i's. They have more punch and bass. They also have more presence at low volume. Finals have a huge presence and weight but at volume set about 45 to 50 on the C1000.
But the voices of the Finals are to die for.
So I decided to have both in my main system.
One week with the Finals, one week with the EB1i. I have almost the best of both worlds this way.
Too bad the Lyngdorf does not allow for multiple settings for Room Correction ( at least 2 ) : I have to reset it each time I'm changing speakers ! And the MEN 220 won't do that also...
Maybe I would need an other Lyngdorf and 1 or 2 x 275's for the Finals...
I thought I would sell the Finals, but Finally I won't do the same mistake as with my 275 : they are just too good to be sold !

This thread was just to say that happiness can be both with electrodynamic and ESL speakers....
Cheers,
Jérôme

Jerome: You have very nice electronics & speakers!
I now know why you need room correction- you have one of those steeple type ceilings. Any chance that you might be able to move your system to a regular room?

That's good to know. I'm glad that you've found at least something to help with the sound.
I've decided to leave the MAC MEN220 alone. After my Crimson Cables/RCA's & ceramic fuse upgrades (:confused-37: but they really do work very well), I don't think that room correction is right for me. Instead,I'm just buying more music.

Jérôme.......The ESL's certainly command attention, and the ceiling height controls the placement. Excellent to be able to have two different high quality speaker systems, and have the choice to listen to either pair.

Thinking about wrestling the ESL's up the stairs to the audio room makes my back ache. Good thing you are young enough to handle that task. I wouldn't even try it. I'm out of warranty.

Dan,

I'm sure It was an easier task than removing the 501's out of your rack (without handles !! ) and climbing 2 levels of my house with the 501's was like a kind of hell !
You're right, we have to take care of our back !
Cheers,
Jérôme

I know what you mean. It seems that our hobby is made up of a little (or a lot of) give and take, with the various component choices available, and the results we receive from making component changes. But, sometimes ya just don't have to choose between components. You can enjoy both.

Thanks for the tip on the MEN. BTW, nice setup. Does she sound as good as she looks? Without even hearing your setup, I'll go out on a limb and vote yes.

Thanks !
I think the room was nicer without the panels and using the EB1i only.
Now it looks a bit full of gear.
But having the choice to listen to such different and great speakers is priceless so as long as my wife does not tell me to take them out, they are here to stay !
