Tannoy Memory
Well, this Chinese New Year caught me by surprise as I had the chance to listen to a pair of Vintage Tannoy GRF Memory.
First of all, it looks like a very close, slightly smaller version of the Westminster (which is more muscular and imposing in size", but nonetheless displaying the charms of good old "yesterday's" craftsmanship). Well, the speakers are more than 30 years old, yet the owner had NOT changed them at all, inspite of the regular amplifier changes, from tubes, SETs and SS, not to say different makes and models. The owner is a musician and teaches violin and when questioned upon by my friend, his answer was he had not heard a better pair of speakers that can hold his love for reproduced music. That is a tall statement given he does have the financial clout to change speakers - as I looked at the various amps he still had in his collection. This struck a chord and I thought deeply on the Canterburys (with a matching 200 Super Tweeter of course) as well as the Westminsters or Kingdoms. Ok, Ok, I better shut these thought down. But before I do, let me just say, the experience I had with these speakers, though a short 1.5 hours all-in-all had left me with a solid Memory of Tannoy's "sound" - and they ARE good! Just to share my experience. Not too bad, for a start 2013, going back to the Tannoy's old world charm. Fine craftsmanship, nice wood, solid woodwork and not just veneers, dual concentric alnico drivers, .... Cheers!

Jerry, nice opportunity to listen to a pair of vintage Tannoys. I am not familiar with the vintage stuff but as far as modern goes, I think I have a pretty good idea having owned a few and listened to more... Yes my friend, they ARE good.
