When I've done cap replacement in xover's inside speakers, I would use hot glue (from a glue gun); I think this is common. I wouldn't really want to do that inside these amps unless absolutely necessary though. I think it is removable particularly from metal, but I'm not positive about that.

Whoa! They are LARGE and I don't think they will fit in the LP27a. Are they really 50mm in diameter?

They sure are! I will have to make a wood spacer to place between the chassis and base. I think it will turn out ok as they faceplate of my LP-2 is wood. I will make a matching one for my 6V6 amp at the same time for future upgrades of capacitors... I looked into 3D printing but that is way too pricey.....

Just a note to let you guys know, Dennis is already offering a new 45 SET design at $1,700.00 plus shipping.
Quite tempting indeed, but for me this is not a feasible alternative as my speakers (relatively new and quite good, IMHO) would not match the ideal Sensitivity required to really tap the potential synergies from this wonderful tube, at just about 2 Watts RMS. IMHO, speaker impedance curves ought to be on the easy side and sensitivity should not drop below 101 dB's (mine are just 98). Judging from my Inspire gear, I'm sure the new Inspire 45 SET will be a big success, though. Last edited by Musica Amantem; 02-22-2016 at 05:56 PM. |

A not so good shot with to much backlighting. It is rare I am in my office when the sun is not up and backlighting this to much but you get the idea. [IMG][/IMG] Interesting how much more space efficientDennis is comparing this to his own 6V6 posted a few pages back. I have to say this 2013 offering has room to work. It reminds me of a '68 Pontiac I had as a teenager. Anyway I had the bottom off the other day when I smelled smoke in my office. Turned out there was a food tent in the courtyard out said window and the 100 year old windows are a little leaky. No issues with the amp. Oh, and look at the inside of the back face. Dennis used some sort of hot melt or epoxy to hold jacks, wiring, and caps in place as was some of this discussion of late. I did not poke at it then to determine what it was. I just noticed the use of it. Not sure if he is still doing this. Sometime I will post top and innards shots of the LP2 I have of a similar vintage. Have a good weekend! |
