I did, the Aric Audio Motherlode II. This will be made as fully balanced input to output, with some other upgraded parts and tubes. He is building it now and I should have it by the end of this month. Mine will be made in curly maple. After reading reviews of various preamps using the 6SN7 tube, I decided that is what I wanted to try in my system.

Aric has been wonderful to work with so far. I'll post impressions and pictures once the preamp arrives and burns in a bit.

Thanks to all for your input!

Dave congrats on your new preamp, I’m sure the Aric will sound as good as it looks [emoji122][emoji106]

I’ve also been considering a preamp with 6SN7 tubes from Michael Maloney of Supratek in Australia, but I’ll be very interested to read your impressions on the Motherlode II

Enjoy it!

The 6SN7 tube is an excellent choice. Many NOS tubes available so you can find which ones match your taste. In my SLP-98P I've found the coin-base Sylvania's to be as good as any. The RCA 'reds' are also a popular choice.

Congrats. I’ve never heard an Aric Audio Motherlode II before. It looks fantastic though. Please let us know how it sounds. Again congratulations.

Congrats on the purchase. Please keep us informed as to your opinion of it once you've had a bit of time with it.

Thanks all for your support and encouragement! Yes, I am looking forward to hearing the preamp in my system and will post impressions once I get a good handle on the sound.

I use an EAR 868 and an Audio Research Ref 6 with my Pass XA 100.5's. They both mate perfectly well.

XA100.5's. I see the specs on the 100.8's show idle consumption at 500 watts each. How hot do these amps run? I ask because every time I've heard Pass amps they just illuminate the music so beautifully. But the power consumption and potential heat would be a concern for me.

Rob, I’ve also been considering an EAR Yoshino 912 (with 2 phono inputs) as an alternative to the Supratek Grange and now potentially the Aric. How do you like your 868 vs the REF 6? Thanks for your input!

Dave, I hope you don’t mind me raising the question here, happy to initiate a new thread if you feel appropriate, thanks!
