Conrad Johnson D-A 3....how good?
I was wondering how the DA 3 compares to newer converters.
I'm think it might be the week link now in my system. Chris |

I am not sure, but I am looking to try one! Let me know what you think of it and if you plan to let it go

I am told by someone that owns one that the CJ and Hugo makes an interesting comparison. Then again, some former Naim nDAC & 555 ps owners are now Hugo owners, and the Naim gear is 5 times the price of the CJ component. I tried the Hugo in place of my Naim DAC & XPS 2 DR and found it was not universally better ( depending on the music being played, it was better on classical but not on some live recordings like radio station JJJs " like a version" series which my Naim loves). I will be trying the Chord 2qute as its a better proposition physically and functionally for a home setup. I use CJ CT5 and LP70s. Note that i am auditioning this stuff and i am cautious of others opinions as we all listen differently to different music. Opinions are merely a starting point for me. I've seen too many disagreements in audio to think anything else. I think its also noteworthy that when i auditioned the Hugo I was thinking i had "DAC issues" when it was actually tired tubes in my amps. Don't assume you know where the problem lies. The causes are often not what we think. How many times have i learnt that one through experience.

I just moved to a new house with hardwood floors, so my system sounds bright. Just wondering how far digital has come since this was made.
My new Cary SLP-98 is very revealing also. You can hear everything in the recording. |
