Default Views on the new KT150 in the LP125sa?

Hello All,

Re valve time is approaching for my LP125SA. I'm pretty pleased with the lifespan of the valves so far - I must have 3500+ hours on them so far, and there appears to be plenty of the side getters left. I do feel that the sound has lost some crispness and is starting to get slightly opaque.

Now that the KT150 has been around for a while, I wondered if anyone has had any experience of these in any of C-J ' s KT120 -powered amps?. I am hopeful that they may benefit from longer vacuum pumping and perhaps better selection than the regular KT120 - I understand that their parameters are very similar and therefore it should be safe to use. I had a good experience with the GL KT88s, which are very similar to the EH addition in terms of internal structure, so maybe a 'Premium' KT120 would be interesting and perform well in my amp.

They are quite pricey in comparison, but have heard good things about them in the ARC REF 75.

Any views? Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Alex

You should check with c-j. Seems to me I understood that the KT150 was not interchangeable with the KT120, at least not in our 6550 powered amps.

I do not think the KT150 will work in the LP125 and suspect CJ will advise against it but you should definitely check with them.

I decided to go with the KT120s - if it isn't broken, don't fix it!. Even if the KT150 is compatible (which I think it should be), I don't believe that it is worth the extra - it is about 80% more expensive, and the amp won't be making use of it anyway.

Regards,
Alex
