Another point to consider. Do you have any power conditioning? Good conditioning will help with noise. I find my sound is cleaner with more detail evident since I upgraded my power cords.

I think the first question is: do you have (or want to create) a digital music library? Or prefer playing from physical media (i.e. spinning disks)?

The Aurender products are fantastic and can accommodate both streaming and an existing library. Moving from a MacMini and Audirvana to an Aurender N150 was noticeably better, not to mention thier customer support and software is very solid.

The other requirement for Roon is that you need to stand up a "core" somewhere. Either on a Roon Nucleus device (not cheap...), or you can set one up on your Mac or PC. But it needs to be up and running and on your network at all times in order to use Roon. The Roon core does all the work to compile/curate your content. Then you need a Roon endpoint, like a Bluesound Node or other such streaming device that supports Roon. In the end for me, it was an additional expense and extra "moving parts" that I just didn't feel was worth the cost or hassle. |

Well said IllinoisCheesehead you articulated the setup well but I concluded the value of Roon a bit higher. I was/am able to find more obscure music that I likely would not had known about had it not been for Roon. Thebenz YMMV and yes as stated there is an extra cost so YOU will need to decide if it's right for you.

- Music discovery - Digital Gatefolds. Background, artist bios, pictures, etc. Of course you can get all this, but nice to have it all assembled up front. - Roon's ability to mix music. Often we will select an artist, hit play, and a very good playlist will start; some we own, some pulled in from Tidal. If I were already a well-versed music collector (I am not) than Roon would be harder to justify.

I love the old-school FM tuner interface. Very cool stuff.
