I have read on several forums that this problem sometimes occurs on some devices, this problem is caused by firmware corruption and needs to be updated.
I contacted Chuck Hinton, but he said that I need to contact the regional service center. The nearest Macintosh service center is 1,200 kilometers away. Chuck used to willingly restore 6700 remotely, but now everything has changed, unfortunately.
I have instructions for the firmware, but there is no firmware itself. According to the instructions, you need to press the TST button inside the device. When I press it, my MA6700 is put into programming mode, a new unknown device appears, but there is no firmware.
Does anyone have firmware for MA6700?

Hello - I've been a long time member/lurker (8 years!). I just activated my subscription. I found this thread about firmware for a MA6700. Chuck provided the firmware back in 2014 when my MAC first bricked. I was able to restore it and it's been working great since. Last night, we had a power issues and it's back in the same state. I was able to find the instructions, but the link Chuck provided no longer works and he said he can't share the firmware anymore. Do you happen to have a copy of the firmware you can provide? It would be a HUGE help to get me up and running again.

Here was the file name of the firmware I used before: "230070_MA6700_V1.34_WIN8.zip"

Thanks!
Gaurav

I find it amazing that McIntosh won't (can't??) share the firmware needed to fix a problem with their recent vintage gear. Does he expect you to take it to a dealer and pay to have the firmware reloaded?

When I read stories like this it makes very happy that I did not purchase the MAC7200 that I was going for instead of the INT-25.

When my MA6600 went nuts McIntosh sent me the updated firmware on a EEPROM that I installed myself. For some reason they sent two and I still have one if anyone needs (of course, comes with no warranty implied or whatever, from ~10yr ago).

It is amazing that in 2022 they won't give out firmware and expect people to take their gear to a service center and pay for someone to do what probably 99% of McIntosh owners can do on their own. I can't think of any other company that operates this way. Imagine having to take your computer to a dealer each time there was a new OS update. Ridiculous.

Is this an issue with an electrical surge? My MA8000 got bricked a couple of years ago by an electrical spike. Had to take it in to get it fixed and have the firmware updated at that time.

Not sure whey Mc won't let product owners handle their own firmware updates unless allowing that has led to a high number of customer complaints due to user error.

That may well be Mac's reasoning. I think most of us here are pretty comfortable with tech, especially when related to our gear, so we're more likely to be inclined to DIY this and we're more likely to be successful. We take audio seriously.

I don't mean to sound rude, but a lot of people are idiots with computers and computer tech, so Mac's policy kinda makes sense.

agreed, it's not the easiest process to follow, but I've done it twice. I wish I had kept the file, but it was over 8 years ago!

I'll try contacting Chuck again.

If anyone does have the file, please let me know!

Sometimes, a friendly kind word, said to the right person, can produce results.

You can get farther with a kind word and a gun than just a kind word.
