paul1.......Both of the Simaudio Moon 650d and 750d DAC/trnasports are gorgeous looking players for sure. The 650 retails in the U.S. for $8,000.00 and the 750 retails for $12,000.00. I'm not sure where you came up with the $3500.00 difference between the Moon 650 and the McIntosh MCD1100 ($10,000.00) unless McIntosh's most recent price increase brought the retail price to $11,500.00.

The Moon 650 uses the ESS ES9016 DAC. That's the same DAC McIntosh uses in their new $2500 D100 DAC/preamp. The Moon 750 and the MCD1100 both use the ESS ES9018S DAC. There will be some performance differences between the two DAC's. If the MCD1100 is still retailing at $10K, then the Simaudio Moon 750 equivalent at $12K puts it $2K over the Mac product and doesn't support SACD.

Looking at the published specifications on both Moon DAC's, they appear to be fabulous performers, but before you make a purchase you should spend time with familiar music auditioning Moon and Mac. I owned two MCD1100 players, one each in two separate systems, and loved them. The MCD1100 is an SACD/CD/DAC. The Moon 650d and 750d are CD/DAC's only. The common ground isn't exactly as clear as it initially appears between the Moon 650d and the McIntosh MCD1100.

Paul.......I neglected to look to see where you were located. No doubt about it, McIntosh prices are stout down under.
