I've had the X250.8 and now the X260.8 monos. I have never found the heat to be an issue. My room is in the basement with good ventilation, but the only time I know the amps are warm is when I go to turn them off. Tube amps I've owned put out much more heat. So for me, the warmth is not an issue at all. I'm sure that room size and climate make a difference, but in my view the "heat" issue with Pass is overstated. Just my opinion of course.

daveneumann,
Thanks for this additional information. While I know it's only an opinion this is very good to know. I was talking to a friend that owns Pass as well. He stated that Pass do get hotter than many other amps (such as his previous Mc), but it shouldn't be a game changer for anyone who likes audio. He as you said more than likely I won't even notice it. He also stated that his electric bill only went up app. $10 per month after purchasing his Pass system - which alleivates one of my wife's budget questions... Thanks again. |

Joe, as an owner of a pair of X260.8's I can appreciate your concerns for 'heat'. With that said and given the amount of initial bias into Class A they do get 'warm', but I have never had them get 'hot' in my listening space (14'6" x 24').
Depending on which Mac amp you choose (tubes ?) you will have the same concern |

If you are in a new house and have a moderately sized room, you shouldn’t have to worry about the heat. My listening room has little ventilation and the door needs to be closed otherwise it blocks a speaker. So it’s far from ideal, but it’s what I have.

OK thanks. Yes my room is NOT ideal for two channel audio. It is the Great Room (14.6 x 18.10) - but there are no walls separating it from the Dining Room, Kitchen and Gathering Room. So, it is rather large - 1000 sq. ft. or so overall. So it should be fine.
So, I don't think it will be like the Sahara Desert - as another poster stated elsewhere. So, heat won't be a problem. But I will have plenty of other room issues to tackle after system is installed. Thanks Again! |

Hi. I also just purchased a pair of 260.8s and should have them by Friday. I’ve been using a Van Alstine 600R (which is quite a fine amp IMO), but with the recent purchase of Von Schweikert Endeavor SEs I felt I’d like to try and go with an all Pass signal chain (17, 20, 260.8). I’ve heard different Pass amps in friends’ systems and have always been pleased with the performance. Hoping the same when these hit my own system.

I think you will really enjoy the synergy of all-Pass electronics. I've tried various mix and match combinations but for me the combination that sounds the best in my system is Pass phono - Pass preamp - Pass amps. While I've always had some tubes in the system before, this is the absolute most quiet background of any electronics I have owned.

I’ve been a little concerned about reports of the .8 series not being as extended or “sweet” in the highs. That’s one of the things I like about my friend’s X250.5.

It sounds like you have a very nice system planned out. Schweikert Endeavor SEs - WOW. Mine might be delivered by Friday or Monday ... My dealer has my Pass stuff, but we're waiting on all the Shunyata cables ... Post how you like yours when you recieve them. Definitely interested in your impressions.
