Almost Audiophile
Ok, I'm not in the league of anyone one this site, though I love looking this site over, reading postings here, and dreaming of what might be. The closest thing I have to be able to contribute is my 'almost-audiophile' system' w/ a budget Cary.
It consists of... Audio Electronics Super Amp MkII power amp made by Cary Audio in NC when Dennis Had used to be involved w/ Cary and offered these special project amps. This one is factory wired for 20 wpc triode. I would love to upgrade the caps to Jensen paper in oil and the power tubes to Shuguang GEKT88. Maybe someday. 1979 Altec Lansing Model 15 2-way loudspeaker with their Tangerine 802-8G high frequency driver in a curved radial horn, and a 12" Altec woofer. I rebuilt the crossover, re-wired using Kimber, and refinished the cabinets. 1990 Yamaha CDX450 cd player using variable output direct to power amp. This is the weakest link and I'd love to upgrade to a better cdp with an analogue variable output stage. Someday adding a tube preamp w/ phono and turntable would be wonderful. I don't know how to post photos here so I copied them from another site I have my system posted on. http://cgim.audiogon.com/i/vs/s/f/1320270745.jpg http://cgim.audiogon.com/i/vs/s/f/1320270748.jpg http://cgim.audiogon.com/i/vs/s/f/1320270747.jpg Last edited by mjcmt; 11-06-2011 at 04:58 PM. |

Before the C2200...
My Cary SLI-80 F1… I love the sound of my Mac gear but I miss the aesthetics of the Cary tube gear.
