Default Power Cord Question

Anyone know what the "C" battery size piece in a power cord near the source(in my case) does? I have one plasma with it in the power cord, and one plasma without it in the cord. Both are Panasonics. Both cords are factory that came with the tv.
Thanks.

Ferrite Core

The ferrite cores reduce both interference pickup and interference
radiation by/from your display by making it harder for those currents
to flow in the shield layer of the cables. Their use may reduce the
pickup of interference from nearby transmitters and other RF
radiators. Their use may be required to suppress RF noise generated
by your display enough to meet FCC emission standards. Their use may
improve your picture, and certainly won't degrade it.

Mike.......You might be seeing a ferrite magnet around the power cord, sometimes used to reduce EMI/RFI.

Thanks guys. I'm selling my 42" that doesn't have the ferritte core, but the cord appears to be thiicker. I was thinking of swapping cords, puting the thicker cord without the ferritte core on my 50" that I'm keeping.

Sounds like I should just leave things be.

Thanks!

Mike.......I think I would stay with the cord that came with that widescreen. That ferrite core is there for a purpose.

Thanks Dan. That's what I'll do. I broke down and bought a Pioneer 60" yesterday. I couldn't pass up the price they're going for. I'm doing some TV moving around in the house to accommodate the Pioneer.

Mike,
I have Panasonic 42" Plasma.
After some weeks I exchanged the stock power cord against a relatively cheap custom one which is shielded and has some gold plugs.
Just paid about 40,-- Euros or so - really cheap.
The imaging of the Plasma got so much sharper, the colors so colorful and natural.
I switched back to the stock cord after some days and it seemed as if there was a fog on the screen.
With a better power cord you can not only improve sound, no, you can dramatically improve the imaging of your TV.
I would be interested in your experience if you try it.
