Serge, great advice, and a big on Midnight Sugar. Whenever I put that on, my wife comes into the room & settles in right away with a big smile on her face.

ask your wife(girlfriend) to come in when your trying different cables and don't tell her what your doing, and play music she knows, and see if she notices anything. I like doing that, it keeps me honest.

I usually listen to stuff I know really well, like others have said, notes are cool, but I try to capture a feeling or a word that kind of describes what I hear no matter how silly it might feel at the time, just as long as I remember.

And sometimes it's a small difference, but sometimes the small differences are the ones you can't live without.

But be willing to accept, it might not really have changed..

Mark.

My wife couldn't care less about the "critical listening' parameters of my system such as imaging and soundstage but she does play the piano and has a very musical ear and is sensitive to pitch and timbre/purity of tone. She'll usually yell from the other room, did you get something new for your system?? Ooops... Can't hide much from her.

Serge.......I listened to Yamamoto Tsuyoshi Trio - Midnight Sugar, and now listening to Yamamoto Tsuyoshi Trio - Misty on Rhapsody through my Sonos ZP90 and the MCD500 DACs. Very enjoyable. I just purchased both SACD's. I can see why this music comes in handy for auditioning anything, not just cables. Midnight Sugar and Misty are both excellent. Looking forward to spinning the SACD's on the main system, and the tube system. Thanks for the recommendation.

I took my wife to demo CD/SACD players once, and didn't tell her a thing about prices. My dealer had a Ayre CX7e, CX5e and the EAR CD player.

My dealer played them within a minute or less from the last one. My wife (girlfriend) at the time didn't know a thing about any of them. She picked the most expensive one, which happened to have tubes.

We were both in unison on that. The Esoteric was a different matter.

long story short, I trust her ears, they aren't as biased as mine.

Mark.

Ordered both Yamamoto Tsuyoshi Trio - Midnight Sugar and Misty. I was surprised at the price; they are the most I have ever paid for cd or sacd so far.
