Years ago, having invested what then seemed a frightening amount of $$$ in a C22/4 and MC275 combo, I worried a bit about whether their designs would come to seem dated or reassuringly classic.

Today I have no such worries. No idea what's going on in that design dept., but this new piece is certainly distinctive. It looks less like a purposeful piece of high-end audio equipment and more like something that is fleeing Dr Who.

I'm looking at my MC275 V! and it looks close to retro . The new style must be selling because they keep releasing new retro models. One Mcintosh dealer I know rather well said his biggest sellers are the MA252 and MA352. People on. a budget that want the Mcintosh sound . Audio Research got into trouble because it's cheapest integrated amp was 9-10 thousand dollars.

I just wonder if McIntosh is making any real improvements in sound quality or simply repackaging their old technology. Is this a better CD SACD player than the MCD600 or a better DAC than the D150? The marketing blurbs seem to emphasize style more so than performance.

I'm sure they wanted a player that aesthetically matches their new retro style items. Just hope this style isn't the future for all new products. Surprised they didn't offer a ridiculous digital output option to fall in line with the C8's optional digital input module.
