Default Everest prep

I was advised by Shunyata to make sure the table on which my forthcoming Everest will sit is rock solid and mass dampened. With time on my hands and an idle mind, I set out to comply.

I plastered the underside of the bottom shelf, and the cavity under the top shelf with automotive sound proofing material. I used this on an odd shaped sub platform I built and it really added weight and stability to the shelf. It did add some weight to the tables (I treated both), and the reflective surface of the material should give me some cool lighting effects...

I’m also thinking about a platform for the Everest; the added height will make the top of it nearly even with the top of the speaker, and it will add mass to the stand. Couple options I’m considering; an 11” by 17” rectangular platform, or a platform that follows the geometry of the table (16” at its widest), and is 17” in depth. There is a manufacturer in VT, Eden Sound, who can for sure make the rectangular one, and probably can mill the truncated one out of Terrastone...we’ll see...

Also thinking about a sound absorbing panel to affix to the back of the stand. It’d hide some of the wire mess behind it, and add some benefit to the bass - but I’m already way beyond where I ever thought I’d be...

For me a 2 inch butcherblock on 6 Sonic Design feet works fine under my Denali 6000T and the cost is negligible.

On the off chance I go the Everest route, I sketched up an isolation platform. The Everest would be within a couple inches of of the speaker at its face, so isolation will be important.

Not sure if I will go with wood, acrylic (assuming I can find a source to cut to size) or something else...

I’m a retired civil engineer and miss doing field sketches...
I would go with a hard wood, e.g. rock maple, walnut, etc., or piece of slate or granite as a platform for Everest. I wouldn't go with acrylic.

I’ve queried the source of the countertops I had made for my stereo rack, and the amp stands on which the amps rest, for a custom countertop that follows the geometry of the table. 16” wide at the rear, and 17 inches deep in the shape of the attached mock-up photo.

Just for grins, I priced a rectangular 1 3/4” wide plank countertop - 16” by 17”. Comes in under a c-note. I even have Danish oil left over from finishing the rack and amp stands so I can match it to the existing stuff.

I have six Terrastone Pure Cylinders with elastomeric pads I’ll use to support the platform.

I think I found my solution...
