I have the MC255 ..

The Center speaker is great ! Very pleased from it as it's from the same Front Focal speakers family.

The Moral is an active sub, I didn't invest mech on it as I think Subwoofers make low frequencies only , Don't see this as a priority .

PS : Moral manufacture is 20 Miles from my home , They make Wonderfull products.

https://www.morelhifi.com

Instead I've added All round AudioQuest cables and their AudioQuest Thunder - High (Variable) Current Power cable to the MC255 .

Thumbs up Mc255

RONY..... My apologies, I had the MC205 on the brain because we actually had a deposit on one about four months ago, but decided to go a different direction at the last minute. Regardless, the MC255 is a fine multichannel. We tested one out at the regional Mac store, back during the summer, and it brought a pair of Mac XRT2.1Ks to life very, very nicely.

Are you saying that the Focal center in your system is matched to your Focal fronts? We heard a lot about matching the center to the fronts, so we purchased a B&W center that's supposedly matched to our 802 fronts. The reason I can't tell you whether or not it worked out that way is because we're still lacking one channel of amplification to drive the center we purchased this past summer (2020).

As for your subwoofer, are you saying that you didn't hear much of a difference in them? The only sub we have is the one that came with the soundbar that we purchased with our LG OLED...and, to be perfectly honest, we didn't even plug it in for many months. We were thinking that it wouldn't make much of a difference, but, man, we were wrong about that! I've never owned a subwoofer before this one, but I am continually amazed when I hear the soundtracks that many sound guys are adding to movies and to series these days.

In fact, I often think that they're purposely adding low frequency sound to keep everyone's attention. The series Black Sails, for example, has a title track that will make the windows shake...and that's not to mention all of that Pirates vs British Navy cannon fire! I mean, seriously, it sounds very impressive -- and the active sub that I'm referring to is relatively small.

I haven't really listened to another subwoofer, though, so it's really hard to say if we would be gaining a lot by adding a "high end" sub.

I'm sure that there must have been similar threads created in the past, but I thought that I'd start out with how I was introduced to Mac and ask the others on the board -- including new members -- to write about how it all started for them.

I recall visiting a friend of the family back in late 1978. He lived in a duplex and had what every young man that I knew would've killed for: a big LP collection, a beautiful Teac reel-to-reel and two huge Altec Lansing studio monitors. Anyway, he put on Led Zep II, dropped the needle on the tune "Ramble On" and proceeded to demonstrate a great feature that came with the "new" McIntosh MAC-4100 receiver: something called "Power Guard."

Needless to say, the windows shook and the neighbors were definitely wide awake, but, for all of the sound coming out of those speakers, I don't recall any discomfort...and, even though that receiver -- which we own today -- is spec'c at a max of 75W per channel, I was hooked.

So how did you get your start with the McIntosh brand?
I have always wanted a McIntosh system and FINALLY, at age 55 have built one! MA5300 (as a pre-amp), MC125 amp, and MEN220 (which I can't recommend enough. Game changer!)-Focal Kanta 2 speakers, Rega P3 turntable, Rotel CD player.

JurisHP..... Although I was introduced to Mac -- way back in the late-70s -- we purchased our first "separate" stereo amp around 2003. Before that, we owned a couple of Mac receivers [the 4100 and the 4200], but the goal was always to go with a separate component system.

Having written that, we only purchased our second Mac stereo amp last year -- and I'm older than you are -- so don't feel like there aren't others here who've moved slowly toward their Mac goals. In fact, we plan to add another amp [and a subwoofer] to move from the 4.0 system we presently enjoy to our first 5.1 system. So, if all goes to plan, it will have taken me over 40 years to obtain the Mac-based multichannel system that I've dreamed about.

I'm assuming that you accidentally switched a couple of numbers and actually found an MC152 to amplify the signal coming from you MA5300...and, by adding the room correction you get with your MEN220, you'll be able to "fit" your Mac system to your listening area. Although we have Mac Room Perfect correction capability in our MX151, we won't actually move into our new listening area until we get the amp and the sub we need to obtain 5.1 sound. This being the case, it would seem that you've taken advantage of Mac room correction before we have. How much difference did it make in your listening area?

Congratulations on realizing your Mac dreams!

My first experience with McIntosh sad listening at my local dealer. At that time never could afford anything but enjoyed listening and seeing the gear. Fast forward 15 years and I started to build a vintage McIntosh system with the purchase of a C24 and a MC2105. Enjoy listening to the system. Has also been fun learning about all the history of each item.

My first experience was listening at a stereo shop when I was in my teens.

My first Mac was a pre-amp I purchased as a demo - an awesome addition to my system and encouragement to upgrade my amp.

I started with Denon AVR 3300 Reciever and B&K 22 years ago then slowly replacing Denon and B&K with Mcintosh gears 14 years ago.

I am just getting into McIntosh. Should have done it when I was still working and had more money. I am just in the process of purchasing an MX130. I currently run a Linn system in my office and will have to either use the Linn amp or a small pair of powered desktop speakers until I can get something else. For now I plan on keeping my Linn Keilidh speakers.
