I would first suggest you allow your dealer to diagnose hopefully with a house call.

Hi guys,
I have a question about a image that I have been searching for of the MC-611's pictured with Anthony Gallo 3.5 speakers. It was either somewhere on this site or it was a review posted somewhere on-line about the MC-611's. Has anybody seen this review? I'm starting to think I imaged it.
Thanks
Sandman

As for your question, I spent a couple of hours of listening at Overture Audio (Delaware), swapping between the 611s, 452 and 4B3. Unfortunately, my dealer did not have the 7b3 as I believe it would be a better/fairer comparison with the 611s. To my ears, the 611s paired with the 802d3s sounded more natural particularly with the voices and instruments, and more presence or feeling of "being there", sound stage seems expanded and is even more so when I have them in my room which is smaller than at the dealer. Lastly, I pick the 611s because B&W and 802 have reputation of requiring lots of power to sound at their best, and the 611s drive the 802d3 effortlessly (compared to the 4b3, but I admit that the difference is small). Honestly, if my dealer had the 7b3s on hand for the audition, my final choice may be different, and Bryston's 20-year warranty is hard to beat. I think the 28b3s would sound incredible with your B&Ws; although the 611s are no slouch. You have a very hard decision to make

I have the 803 d3 with Bryston 4b3 and always wondered how big the difference would be if I went with MC 611? Very interesting to read that you experienced that the difference was small? Do you remember any specific differencies? My next step will be 802D3 and/or different amplification.

Thanks

Johannes

I would have no reservation about Bryston. I do believe you get a lot more value in the Mac and the 20 year warranty means little to me. That would never be a deciding factor. I believe in sound signatures tremendously. I use Wilson, Mac, and AQ exclusively.

Typical example: the AQ Diamond USB cable vs. a Shunyata Sigma USB which has recently upgraded and now costs 2,000.00. I would not consider this cable because it is not part of my sound signature even though I am sure it is a fantastic cable. I am happy with my Diamond and would never introduce it into my AQ signature.

If I had one piece of advice I would recommend to choose your gear very carefully based on sound signatures. Mac has a particular sound. Dags have a particular sound, etc. Choose gear that is synergistic and stick within your sound signatures. Going from one manufacturer to another, that's not for me.

There is so much of this type of thing that goes on, I am sure it makes the manufacturers very happy. I change brands of speaker. Now I have a different sound and now I might need another amp that works better and I buy the amp but now I need new cables that work better with amp and so on. In the end you don't know what you got or what you have accomplished so then you add an equalizer to make everything "perfect".

Hi Johannes,
From my recollection of the audition of the 4B3 and MC611, the differences are minor. It’s just that the MC611s are, to my ears, better matched with the 802D3 with slightly better soundstage and the voices sound more natural versus the 4B3. But the differences are very small. Another reason I went with the MC611 is that I want to make sure I have ample power to drive the 802D3.

I also listened to the 803D3, and I thought there is definitely a big step up with the 802D3. If budget allows, I would suggest you audition the 802D3 with the MC611 and the 7B3, and decide.

Thank you very much for your kind answer and recommendations! Mac is definately on my list for my next upgrade path.

Hi

Thank you for this information and I definately will try out Mcintosh later and probably with the 802d3. I love my 803 d3 but sometimes I wonder how an even bigger speaker would do to the overall experience
