In 1977 I was checking out all the available equipment. Visited all the area shops. I made my final decision on the system I wanted about a half dozen times. Don't know why, maybe someone suggested, I stopped in to Steketee's Audio on Fulton Street. Still remember to this day. Salesman Mike Brouwer. Smart salesman, set me up with a credit account right away. Great for them, costly for me. I made a deal on a Stereotech receiver, ML10C speakers, and a Philips GA212 table. I returned that doggone Stereotech about a half dozen times in about a 3-4 month time frame for a channel blowing out. Ended up with full credit and replaced with a C-26 pre-amp, MC2100 amp and a MQ-102 equalizer, and never looked back. Not long after I added a JVC tuner which served admirably, and is still in top condition, but I always wanted a McIntosh tuner. Earlier this year I added a MR77 tuner and upgraded to a MQ-101 equalizer. And a MAC1900 a few months ago. Thought about a MC2105 amp for the cool meter effect, but my 2100 is in such great shape it didn't make good fiduciary sense.
Happy dude to say the least. Just to mention, when I purchased the JVC tuner I also added a JVC 8-track player to the mix. Still have it in like new condition. I had it cleaned and oiled about 10 years ago. First tape I put in played for a minute, then was eaten. I think they got brittle and the silver connecting tape lost it's tape-ness. But it's still a piece of my audio history and has a cherished place along side my other equipment. |

I can't remember. What I do recall is putting the big green meters out of my mind as being simply out of reach, financially. This went on for decades until one day recently ago I realized that for some time, I've actually been able to afford some Mcintosh gear. Bingo dude, I went out and in short order I bought a MEN220 and a MA7900. I'm a Boomer, and most of the people I know are about 20 years younger. They don't get it (stereo). Spending serious $ for sound is a foreign concept for most of them --- you know, an iPod and some desktop speakers'll to it ........

My first experience was with their car audio line. The quality got me interested in their home audio gear. When one of the local dealers had a discounted C42, I purchased it and added it to my existing Adcom system. I then sold the Adcom system to finance an MC352 and have been hooked ever since.

Hi. New member and first post! I found a dusty pair of MC30s in a friend's garage and asked if I could have them. The rest is history.

Same amp I had with the exception that I had the metered version. The added cost of the metered amp was kind of a waste though because you could never see the meters.

I loved stereo equipment since I was 11. Soldering RCA's to our Nivico stereo's DIN output so I can record on my boombox. In the late 90s my family's construction business let me set up their client's home theaters as extra service because they knew I knew my "audio"stuff". I eventually got a gig for an uber rich client who demanded the best. We set up two home theaters, with Vidikron projectors, Stewart screens and of course C39 Mcintosh controllers w/ multi-channel power amps and Mac LD player and an outboard processor (MC3) I think.
I was ecstatic and fell in love with the system. It also helped that the Long Beach dealer Put together a wonderful system, the dealers eventually became my friends. I had no saved much then so I could only drool but didn't buy any Mc stuff even if the dealer offered some deep discount. Fast forward to 2 years ago I heard Mc Tubes in Thailand and I was hooked! Because of these experiences I bought a C220 and Mc 275 which I plan to bi-amp as soon as I upgrade my sonus Faber Grand Pianos |
