Default Need help with Shunyata selection process

I have been avoiding all the power cord and hydra and whatever
type stuff for some time. However since reading the tech info on the Shunyata web site and science behind their products, I feel it's time for me to start embracing the technology. I want to start with only one area at this point. That is, power distribution for my amps. I power my two channel system with a pair of Bryston 7BSST amps. The 7BSSTs drive (at high volume from time to time) a pair of B&W 802ds.
Each amp is on a dedicated 20amp line (over kill???). The power cords that came with the amps are the only thing between the wall receptacle and the 7BSSTs. I do not want surge protection because it WILL retard amp performance. So here I am. Looking at the Shunyata site and all the snake names for PCs plus all those great looking metal boxes and I do not have a clue where to start! I guess I will need a PC (OR TWO) connected
to a sharp looking metal box (or two) and then a PC to each of the 7BSSTs
Can I get some help selecting what I need for my system???
If I could tap into the knowledge vault of the AA members I would be grateful.
Thanks Ed

Ed, I suggest you take it slowly and step by step so that you know exactly what each addition is doing in your system.

First, I suggest that you go back and read my post on whole house surge protection and your home owner's insurance policy.

First step for amps would be to get some good power cords and plug them directly into those nice dedicated lines. No shiny boxes to start. You can add them later if you decide that the power cords are a positive addition.

If you don't want to jump into the deep end of the pool then I would suggest a couple of VENOM-HC (US$295) power cords or the next level up which is the XiTron VIPER (US$595).

Ed, Caelin's suggestion is a good one. However, while the low cost option probably is an improvement over the stock PCs, if you follow a similar route I took then you will upgrade to better and better cords as each one impresses you.

So if you like what your hear with the low cost cables then to save time and money just buy a Cyclops for the amps, a Zitron Anaconda to the wall, and two Zitron Pythons for the amps. This will use one 20 amp circuit, and use the other circuit for the source components. After you are happy with the amps then you can get a Triton and associated cables for the source gear.

This is how my current system is except I only have a single dedicated 20 amp line at this time.

Whichever route you choose, I am sure you will be happy with the results. Have fun.

Try to audition if possible. Doing so really helped me decide where to out my money. Also, don't underestimate the potential for power upgrades on your source components.

Thanks to all for the advice. Starting slow with two PCs makes sense to me.

Hello Ed,

I have a Bryston 4BSST and BP-6 and FWIW I preferred the stock cords over the Venom 3. I do use the Venoms on my recording equipment (mic preamplifers and compressors). I personally found the Venom too "lean" and bright (possibly) with my Bryston gear.

The VENOM-3 is primarily a source component and small integrated amp power cable.

The VENOM-HC is much larger in gauge and designed specifically for high-current devices like the VENOM PS8 power distributor.

It has a much more powerful, fuller and richer sound quality along with increases in spatial width and depth.

Shunyata makes a "Venom 3" and a "Venom 3 Source."
I was using the "regular" Venom 3.
