Jeff, looking forward to your impressions. I have an A90 still in the box and I can hear it whispering to me every time I come near it, "Let me out of the box, let me play"!!!

Pretty!

Does it have adjustable step-up? The Bob's Devices has a switch for 16X and 30X and a switch for floating the ground if need be.

Stephen....No adjustments on the ST 80SE, they were going for the best possible sound, they do have the Verto SUT which has <10 ohms and >10-50 ohms settings but its a step down from the ST 80 SE......the ST 80 SE was designed around the SPU, Windfield, Cadenza Black and a90 cartridges.....My Meister Silver wants to load at around 18 ohms and the ST80 SE works out to be 18-20 ohms, pretty much dead on......

I have read several places that SUTs create phase issues many times. Since there seems to be a lot of experienced SUT users here, maybe someone can comment on this supposed issue.

Regards,
Jim

I think this was more inherent with earlier models that had much higher Slew rates which resulted in slower rise times.....with todays SUT phase distortion is really not an issue because of the quicker rise times and much higher quality transformers....I'm no expert with SUT but this is how it was explained to me.

Well, I'm still listening to the Shelter with the Bob's Devices Step-Up, and I gotta tell ya, it sounds REALLY good. The Shelter is so much better with this SUT than it was w/o it it's just a JOKE. It doesn't even sound like the same cartridge; it's much closer to my Koetsu now in it's presentation.

Stephen.......When you use the step up transformer, does its output go into the moving coil input, moving magnet phono input or a line stage input? If it it goes into the moving magent phono syage input, do you have to worry about setting the capacitance loading?

Dan,
With the SUT, I go into the EAR using the MM setting (that is, switching OUT the TXs that come in the EAR). I can't set the capacitance setting on the EAR, so I am stuck with whatever it is....I don't even remember what it is off the top of my head. I'll see if I can dig up any info in my correspondence with Bob. I know the impedance loading is 184 ohms compared to the 100 ohms when using the 10X Yoshino SUTs that come in the EAR.
