Default Oppo 105D Digital OUT QUESTION

Hello All
I just acquired an Esoteric K03X into my system. I am very happy to be able to use this as a CD/SACD player, and I would like to use my Oppo BDP105 as a transport for 2 channel Bluray music/DVD-A, music, and send those through the digital input of the K03X, since I do not currently have a server etc. I need a 30-35 Ft run of cable from the rear of the room to the front.

1) should I run coax or toslink?
2) am I correct in my understanding that I will get 24/192 through either of these digital outs on the Oppo?
3) could I get a 103D since its would be a transport only for BD and DVD-A, and use the 105 elsewhere in my house?

Thanks in advance, Pete

I have read that USB is the way to go if you are sending the signal to a device (Esoteric) that has a very good clock. I am also of the impression that USB can transmit higher resolution signals than the other options.

Pete -
I have the same configuration and use a coaxial digital cable from the Oppo to the K-03. I use that for background music and to keep the K-03 transport from wearing out unnecessarily.

The downside is that the Oppo cannot send SACD/DSD or Bluray signals to the K-03. For that you need a DAC that takes HDMI like the new Bryston.

Pete.......From the Oppo BDP105 manual:

Due to bandwidth limitations, high resolution audio formats such as Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution and DTS-HD Master Audio cannot be sent through the coaxial or optical digital audio output. A reduced resolution version of the same audio track will be output instead. To listen to high resolution audio formats in their best quality, please use the HDMI connection if you have a receiver that handles HDMI audio or use the multi-channel analog outputs if you do not

Due to copyright restrictions, SACD audio cannot be sent through the coaxial or optical digital audio output. To listen to SACDs, please use the HDMI or analog audio connections.

Due to copyright restrictions and bandwidth limitations, full resolution audio from DVD-Audio discs cannot be sent through the coaxial or optical digital audio output. To listen to DVDAudio in full resolution, please use the HDMI or analog audio connections.

Great info! I'm researching HDMI de-embedders. Thank you!
