Haven't you read what Mike Matthews New Sensor owner, officially published on this subject? It is at the begining of this post.

That information seems to have been superseded. Here’s the update from Audio Research that I just received

Quote:
Hello Everyone,

With the turmoil in Ukraine and the sanctions that have followed from both sides of the conflict, there have been changes in the availability of vacuum-tubes. We have received many inquiries from customers wondering whether we will be able to supply replacement tubes, and from dealers wanting to know present and future availability of products and tubes.

New Sensor/EHX is American-owned and has been Audio Research's tube supplier for years: all of its tubes are made in Russia. NS/EHX owns the tube manufacturing plant in Russia. On March 11, 2022, Russia imposed a ban on the export of some 200 goods in response to the sanctions imposed on it over the conflict in Ukraine. Tubes were thought to be included.

As the owner of NS/EHX wrote to us earlier today, "The export restriction on Russian tubes has been resolved for now. We are accepting new orders, processing backorders, and hoping to resume shipments in April. Priority will be given to the oldest orders." He continues, "Considering various economic pressures, we must raise our wholesale prices.(that) will apply to all back- and new orders." As such, the tube prices listed in our latest price book will change and be determined when a tube order is ready to ship, depending on our latest costs.

Audio Research has occasionally had spot shortages but we have never run out of tubes, and we always have a large quantity on backorder. With our inventory we continue to ship most new products from stock, or within a few weeks, except for the I/50. We can still supply new products to your customers promptly.

There has been a semi- (tube) panic in the audio world by individuals trying to hoard tubes. (Like the people racing out to buy toilet paper and hand sanitizer when Covid began.) All tube orders in our system now will be shipped as available.

We are working to maintain continuity in our supply of tubes so you and your customers do not need to worry about keeping the music flowing.

We appreciate your support and friendship.

Trent, Dave and Brandon

Yep. But, am guessing there are bans and there are bans. Am guessing if the Chinese ask for tubes the Chinese will get tubes, etc.

Check out the news from Western Electric:

"Western Electric is assessing plans to expand tube operations. Our latest factory is equipped to handle production of multiple tube types and, in light of recent worldwide events, we believe our capacity to do so may become vital to the industry.

"While we continue to meet steady demand for the type 300B triode, we want to hear from you regarding other popular tube types ..."

With their 5yr warranty on the 300b, if they did the same with the other tubes they've listed (I suggested they add the 6922 & 6550 to their list) they should do well.

Glenn, if you click their link you can comment on any type of tube that you are interested in.

No matter what they do, being a USA based manufacturer, prices will be primo.

If WE is in fact capable of producing a wider range of audio tubes (especially KT types), I wish they would drop their amplifiers (which nobody is interested in) and focus exclusively on tubes.

And personally I didn't need a 5yr warranty on tubes when the Upscale-tested Russian KT120 cost $55 each and I never had a failure in about 60 - 70 tubes over 10 years. I'm not really happy start paying a few hundred (or much more) pre tube for the sake of a warranty and a "Made in USA" sticker.

Thanks! I filled out their form and hope everyone else will do the same. I do not care about price--tube costs are a drop in the bucket compared to hifi investments and pleasure. But I sure care about availability and quality, and I can't quite imagine sending $ to Russia until Putin is gone.
