Since I need a CD player AND a good DAC, I am considering the ESOTERIC K-01x but also the EMM LAB XDS-1, the VITUS SCD-025, the T+A PDP 3000HV, the TAD D-1000 and of course... the Accuphase DP-720 !

Does anyone know how they compare ( as CD player but ALSO as USB DAC) ? Do each have specific house sound ? Any other suggestion ?

thanks a lot
I find USB has a while to go yet. No need to steer away from the S/PDIF input on the DP-720. At the moment, PC with an RME HDSPe AIO is feeding an RME ADI-2 AES to S/PDIF converter to the DP-720's coax input. Better results than with USB by a long shot.

Yours is the typical professional workstation solution and it still sounds better than any standard USB connection.

The AQ cables I was talking about are pure silver, which IMHO is the best (but also the most expensive) conductor material.

I do not know, I seem to like my DC-37 just fine and I have heard the DP-720.

I've heard the E-600 + DP-550 (with Vivid Audio G4 Giyas): superb!
I assume the DP-720 would be even better.

It is! I've listened to both and even to the DP-900 which is even better than the former two.

The 900 combo is one of the best sources I've ever heard.
