My experience had been when playing with power cords, always thought that the norm feeding the better one to D/A would make for larger difference.
When it worked out other way around, I was curious and looked up the pics of their (900/901) innards from Accuphase PDF brochure. Sure enough, the DP900 has actually got more power supply modules in them--not that this means anything. But say, if the upgraded cord to the D/A upped the sound by 30-40%, into the Transport it was more like 50-60% improvement (in my case). Going by this, I learned DP is an integral part of the combo. If I were in the position to split them, I'd rather just get DP-720 and spend the excess on cabling and music.. Unless of course an eventual upgrade of 700 to 900 is also in your agenda. My 2c

Maybe the new DC-37 DAC would be a good combo with the DP-700 and HS-Link.

The other day put a down payment on a DP-720.

Current production and delivery is such that my player should leave Japan mid November at the earliest. 230V versions are not stocked in Japan, since they are eagerly sought by Europe and have none in stock to deliver cause of this.

Bit of a wait to go, but the clock is always ticking.

Just came across this very thorough/detailed review of the DP-720.
A little old, but not on here yet so thought to share with those who might have missed it :

Accuphase DP-720 SACD Player Capable of going incredibly deep into the recording, without losing sight of the whole. Review By Wojciech PacuBa

It sounds like a good idea - I will investigate that. BTW, I did get a chance to listen to a DP-720 locally - very impressive indeed. We only used CD and SACD but didn't have a chance to put the USB connection through its paces.
