I'm still not sure what you are describing as being sticky. It sounds like you are referring to the tweeter faceplate, not the driver itself. Can you post a pic and add your description? It doesn't have to be too close - just need it as a point of reference for discussion.
Sadly, I am unable to post a photo here (but I can send you one via facebook, if you like ). You are exactly correct: I am referring to the faceplate, and not the driver. Just the plate with the "sonus faber" logo engraved on it. I think it may be weather-related, as here in South FL, humidity is always a problem. The room and condo have AC, of course, but there have been times during the last few years where we lost power for days (during a hurricane, for example, or when we had repairs done in the building), and I am thinking that may have created the problem.

There is no way I'm doing that!
My dealer offered to contact SF for a replacement pair of tweeters but I haven't pursued it since they sound fine....maybe someday.
Yes, it seems we have exactly the same problem, and, no, there is no way I would use paint thinner, either! I did try to clean it and it only made things worse. It's as if there is a film-type material that comes off with age and results in the sticky feeling. As you said, the sound is great, and the tweeter itself is unaffected,. so this seems to be merely a cosmetic problem, and it is not visible with the grilles on (which I prefer), but, still... these are $22K speakers!

I live at the beach, so maybe it is related to high humidity. I've also had to order replacement grill strings since mine have lost their elasticity over time.

This must be the reason. I live on the beach as well.

I contacted the fine folks at SF in Italy and they will be sending me a replacement set of the faceplates, at no charge. They did specify the problem may reoccur in a few years due to external factors like high humidity, but at least I should now have spares. They also explained that they have discontinued the soft material used on the Elipsa Red tweeter faceplates, so new products should no longer suffer from this issue. Very pleased with their service and dedication to their costumers!

Apologies, just saw your post. I bought grill material from my local dealer for $80. It is not individual strings however, it's more like bulk material that I'll have to cut to size. I haven't gotten around to it yet, I've just been pulling the original strings tighter and cutting off the excess.

I've been in touch with SF about the tweeter trims too, they directed me to Sumiko who will sell them to me for $40 each.

Hi all. New here.

I was searching on line looking for a solution to the ‘sticky Sonus Faber tweeter’ problem and came across this thread. I have a beautiful pair of SF Cremona Auditor M’s which I enjoy very much. I noticed however that the tweeter on one speaker had become distinctly ‘tacky’ and that micro dust particles were sticking. The tweeter on the other speaker is perfectly fine. There’s no high humidity or dampness in the room. To cut a long story short I used a small piece of lint-free fabric (100% polyester) dipped in methylated spirits and very carefully rubbed the surface of the tweeter faceplate. It solved the problem. No more stickiness or unsightly blotches. Both tweeters look identical again with perfect surfaces. Hope this helps.
