Hi All !
I am interested in the E-480. However, I think we might see its replacement in only 1 year. Would you feel concerned about this ? Although I am convinced that the evolution of audio product is *not* a linear improvement and that there is not much to improve as long as we stay "analog", I still like to have the "new" one .
What to you think ?

The E-480 replacement (likely named E-490) won't be released until the end of 2022. Accuphase has a 4-year cycle on non-flagship products and 5-year cycle on flagship products. Of course there may be exceptions. But to replace something that is only 3 years old (by the end of 2021) is highly unlikely.

Plus in reality the DAC is the only part of that unit that might become outdated and with Accuphase you buy that as a card anyway, which can be swapped out down the road.

Very few owners; less than 2% use the internal DAC card.

right, as I assume most will get an external DAC at this price point.

I have read through this post but did not learn see any in-depth member reviews of the E-480, which is the model I am interested in. I am also interested in the TAD ME-1 speakers to pair it with.

Concerning class A and class AB, I currently have a Luxman 550AX with Harbeth C7ES3's. I owned a class AN Luxman 505ux before the 550ax. I do remember that the 505ux was much more dynamic sounding than the 550ax and I kind of wished I would have kept the it instead of "upgrading" to the class A.

I am not sure how that translates to the Accuphase line. My initial thought is that I would probably like the E-480 better than the E-650 or E800 but I haven't heard an Accuphase. Also, I do have to keep costs in mind.

I am also a bit worried that the class A Accuphase models might not be able to drive the TAD speakers as they are somewhat inefficient. Again, I could be totally wrong about this.

I would appreciate anyone's input---particularly the folks that may have an Accuphase/TAD setup.

I like all kinds of music, from classical to jazz, some RAP, alternative, pop, rock...essentially everything except country.

Looking forward to your replies.

Dave

You have no worries about Accuphase Class A Integrated Amps driving TAD aka inefficient speakers.

Luxman 590 Class A here with Harbeth 30.2. Both the Harbeth and TAD ME-1 are 85dB efficient. No problem driving them what so ever and I have a 30x30 size listening room which the speakers fill effortlessly.

any of the Accuphase you mentioned should be more than fine.
