Howie...i feel your pain but the bright side is you get to listen to all this awesome new gear and get to build a new system from the ground up. We are all looking forward to see what you put together

Just as an example, the Plinius SA Reference power amp. First 100 watts in pure Class A. A Beautiful behemoth which is rarely bettered by amps two or three times the price imho. Yet you would find it very difficult to sell it on over here because it does not have brand recognition. Sad but true |

Howie.......I can't believe you are considering resale value before you have even made a purchase. In my opinion, the thought process should be more in line with what components are going to make you the happiest over the longest period of time. Select these components without considering the resale value, as you are most likely to keep them for a long period of time. Who cares what a component will sell for on the used market if you are not intending to sell it?

Even when I know it is a great component sometimes something even greater comes along that will make one wish to change or add. Your signature is testament to that!!!!! howie |

Howie.......I understand your desire to be fiscally responsible, and I admire your commitment to your family. Ultimately, what the used market will bring for any pre-owned audio component is always a crap shoot. Supply and demand play a big part, and luck in finding the right buyer is always beneficial to getting what you want for used equipment. Depreciation is a fact of life with audio gear, with very few exceptions, so we always wind up taking a hit when we sell. There's no way around it.

I made a conscious decision a few years ago that when considering higher value items I would go with products with a proven track record for maintaining their resale value. (The only exception since would be my MBL's) I must admit that as the cost of my gear has gone up I have slowed turning it over as losing a couple of grand on a CD player is a lot different than losing $20k on amps or speakers. I just know the odds are I won't own the same gear two years from now. Jim Jim |

That is funny because the MBL amps I heard were easily in the top 3 I have heard to date. I guess they are not popular here in US because people listen to others on the forums too much instead of listening with their own ears and since MBL doesn't come up that often in conversation, people are afraid to buy and lose money.. It's a self fulfilling prophecy with gear that doesn't get much attention, no talk, no buy, no resale value...
