Today I moved the stereo into the dedicated room. Here are some pictures. I think the rack might be to close to the right speaker and I am considering moving the rack toward the back wall, almost completely in front of the rear window. I sent the measurements of my room to GIK today. This included everything from simple width, length, and height to how far each corner of each speaker is from each wall. One question I have for those who have used GIK, is it normal to not receive a drawing of how your room will look with treatment until after payment? I was told that I would need to pay before they sent me a drawing of how everything would look in the room b/c many people get that far into the process then end up not buying and turn the project into a DIY job with GIK doing the work on setting up the room. I understand this completely but still would like to have and idea of how everything will fit.

Dan, it sounds ok but most definitely different from the living room. First off I noticed a huge hit to the bass, there just isn't much there. Second, the imaging is really good. I believe this is because I do not have the rack sitting between the speakers. There is a bit of echo and ringing on some frequencies. I'm really looking forward to what this room will sound like treated. I think there is a lot of potential here. One thing I would like an opinion on is the windows. I can hear highway noise and I know it's mostly coming through the windows. What would you guys think of me putting foam in the windows? I would cut the foam out to be a snug fit in each window.

Trey.......The foam idea is a food one but it will look a little unusual from the outside. Maybe tint the windows then install the foam.

I would not worry too much about the bass in your room until you have installed your panels and a couple bass traps in the front left and right corners. Onec the acoustic treatment is installed you can begin dialing the speakers into the room. I suspect the bass will develop more by moving both speakers closer to the side walls.

When will your acoustic treatment be showing up?

Thanks Dan
I will probably put my order in Monday. Bryan at GIK told me that it takes about 2 weeks to build my order and then at most a week to be delivered. I'm hoping by the end of the month to have the room treated.
Do you have any suggestions on foam and where to get it?
I appreciate your advice.

Trey.......You may find a satisfactory foam at Lowes or Home Depot. You might try a Google search. Also, try asking the folks at GIK. They may have a better suggestion.

Trey, I enjoy seeing your before pics and your placement of equipment in your dedicated audio room. Look forward to seeing how it all comes together when you are done. I keep thinking about doing the same in my living room since it is never used, it is 18' x 13' x 8' but after trying my system in there I prefer to listen to it in the family room which is 15' x 22' x 17', maybe the volume of air in there helps. I know room treatments would help in the smaller room. I am even considering a 2nd smaller system to go in there but wonder if I will ever use it.

Let us know about the improvements in sound to your room after you get the room treatments.

If you can it is well worth taking some room measurements at various stages of your treatment installation. The right treatments should give you the best upgrade per $ spent over any component change. Re the lost bass, have you tried moving the listening position forward/backwards 2-3 feet? Moving around the room with bass notes playing (or low freq test tones) will give you an idea of where the peaks & dips are. Good luck

I totally agree. Room treatment had the most impact on the sound in my system. For the cost, you cannot not do it.
