I do miss my 2008 GT3 with the Mezger engine and motorsport derived 6 speed manual. No electronic nannies and the wail of the engine near the redline made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up at full throttle. I've owned over 12 Porsches so I've had my fun. They all belong on the track to really appreciate them these days as they are way too capable but there are even more interesting dedicated track toys for that purpose. |

Serge, cannot agree more, those GT3s live a happier life on the track
Assume one reason they are quite popular on track days is that they are more cost efficient than dedicated racing cars, and therefore appealing to the occasional gentleman driver.

Brilliant on the track and is actually a pretty good street car if one is a true enthusiast willing to sacrifice a bit of comfort and being aware of the ground clearances (front end lift helps). Being in a GT3RS with PDK (the only choice that gen) was not my cup of tea so I sold my RS. Perhaps if I did not own a few GT3s with manuals before the RS, I would have been more enthusiastic. Of course if one is to track the GT3/GT3RS often or seriously trying to improve lap times, PDK is the only way to go. It's a faster car all around with PDK. The manual is the ultimate expression of a weekend toy and leisure/spirited drives on the twisty, country/back roads as the PDK is also way better for traffic and daily commutes. Good to have choices. Time is running out for these toys. They will all entertain us in total silence soon. |

Serge, having studied a few years back the various options before settling on the 991.1 GT3 PDK, I found that it was a good compromise between:
- cost of acquisition (I was lucky to find one with very low mileage at a decent discount) - cost of maintenance (my good friend had a McLaren... ouch that bites) - relative performance on the track vs. (much) pricier options - ease of use and confort outside tracks thanks to front lift system and adaptive seats; and convenience of self driving to the track You are right, in the end it's probably worth it if you do spend a decent amount of quality time of the track, which I have been fortunate enough to enjoy with this car There are surely other very good cheaper "track cars" out there but to my liking the GT3 is a good compromise for the reasons listed above. I'm looking forward to hit the track again with the start of the season - Covid rules permitting - also to see how many EVs will be joining and how they will measure
