I plan on installing MinimServer once my QNAP arrives but reading and rereading the installation instructions it appears very difficult to install. Is it really that difficult?

For those who don't want to use NAS and MinimServer, there's also the zero-configuration Lumin L1 library, which is easier to use and is designed to be used in conjunction with the Esoteric Sound Stream or Lumin app.

Lumin L1 acts as a USB HDD for users to copy music files to it. When the USB is disconnected, it runs its own NAS-style music library service without any configuration. However, it's limited to 2TB (because there is no thin 4TB drive currently) so it wouldn't fit your 2.9TB library.

Basic installation is not difficult, but there are many options for configuring how you library looks when you browse, and choosing and setting those options can get a little complicated. However there is a ton of information available on the Minimserver site and forum and Simon (creator of Minimserver) is very helpful and quick to respond.

I installed minimserver on the qnap NAS, the Esoteric sees the NAS but no files/albums appear. Any idea? I'm so frustrated with this unit that I'm ready to throw it out. I'm sure with a small library it's fine but with large libraries without the recommended minimserver it's difficult to find slbums and artwork is screwed up.
Setting up a NAS like qnap and minimserver is not for end users.
Not a great way to spend money.

Please make sure you have set the music content directory for your setup correctly:
QNAP Content Directory

After that, let MinimServer (re)scan your music library.

After the scanning is complete, launch the Esoteric Sound Stream app, and change the library to MinimServer.
