OK Jim,

So you have a good experience.
Vinyl is not your cup of tea.
I can understand it does not fit into everyone's ears.

Best wishes

I feel as a human I am analogue, I will never be digital. Unless cyborg tech becomes advanced enough to make me a ghost in a shell.

How do you know you are not digital?

A discussion on Vinyl vs Digital is like a discussion about Oranges vs Apples.

Some like Oranges, Some Like Apples, Some like Fruit Salad!

If someone doesn't like Oranges, you will never convince them to try them by your experiences alone.

They have to try it and see for themselves.

For me, I have rediscovered vinyl, and I am really enjoying it. I have been buying more vinyl lately then CD's.

Well, I do own the SME 20/2 and I don't think you'd be missing anything incredible if you didn't get into vinyl. However, I think you'd miss another way to enjoy music, and that might be something to consider.

Chuck.......I like oranges, and I like apples, too, but I am steering clear of the Fruit salad. I don't need to try that to know I don't like it.

You have an amazing system that puts mine to shame in pedigree, so enjoy it! If you don't care for vinyl, no problem. It is very possible at your system level the CD is the bomb for you. However in my system, vinyl seems to have more breath, and provides a different presentation than my CD source does. Is it better? To me it is more interesting, but I still listen to CD's about 40% of the time. When you have over a 1000 pristine LP's you have cared for for over 25 yrs, you value the music. Does it matter what the source is if the presentation makes you smile and close your eyes? To me it does not, and I will always use both formats to get me there.
It is all about the Music to Me,
Kindest Regards,
Jim

Digital does not mix with analog. That's why I've got 2 separate systems, one for digital playback and one for analog playback. Vinyl sounds great but digital playback sounds better-at least to me.

DITTO...

I'm listening to some Led Zeppelin IV. It's playing on a Thorens TD 124 outfitted with an SME 3012 arm. The pre is MC 220 and the amp is MC 275. There is not a speck of noise on this LP and the sound is amazing. The band in in the room. I have that same album on a CD and it just don't sound as good (to my analog ears) on my all solid state Marantz gear.

So the tubes are for serious listening to some great classic vinyl and the SS rig is for watching movies, listening to the radio and other general background music.

I also love the ritual (some call it fussing) of cuing up an LP. It just isn't the same with a CD or other digital format.

Watch any movie..., there is a romantic scene..., she wants to dance with him..., she doesn't go over to her iPod or laptop and pick a song from a play list, nor does she slip a CD into a player She ALWAYS cues up an LP on a record player....

Vinyl is romantic.
