Default Temp CD rack needed.

I am swimming in cds, dvds, computer programs and I need a temp solution. I was eye balling those Ikea cd furniture racks that are pretty tall and thin. Are they stable?

I used to use Boltz products to great success. I liked the industrial look. It matched by decor. I've since gotten rid of them because all my dvds & cds have been loaded into a media server.

I have a bunch of educational interactive cds. Like SAT prep, learn math bio etc. Can this type of media be loaded into a server?

I'm pretty sure they can. I'd suggest you consult the manufacturers of the media servers you endeavor to buy. But even if you can't, it'll still serve to reduce all your other media less those educational interactive cds.

If the IKEA rack you are talking about is the one that is about 8" wide and 6.5' tall, they come with a bracket that can be attached to the wall to secure it. On carpet, mine lean out enough to make me nervous without the bracket, because of the thickness of the nail strip that holds the carpet next to the wall. They might be more stable on an uncarpeted floor.

I use mine to hold DVDs and find it a bit difficult to pull out a DVD. If you leave enough space on each shelf to make it easy it cuts down on the available storage.

The problem with any storage solution is that over time it will become inadequate. That has made me really cut down on DVD and LP purchases - no place to put them. But the music server just keeps on growing.

Here's an IKEA idea that works. Note the slide outs that you can install to rack CDs & DVDs. I have filled this unit up with vinyl since I took this photo.

There are many combinations that could utilise the slide outs.

Hello MyPal,
Nice IKEA system you have there. May I ask about the name for the combination and do you purchased the slide out also at IKEA?
