A side question. I note in your signature you have a SweetVinyl SC-1 Mini. How do you have it hooked up? I thought about one of those, but didn't see how to connect it to my C2300.

Hi, you actually simply connect it between the turntable and the phono preamp or I'm assuming in your case the C2300 phono input.

If you look at the picture of the back panel on their website you will see line in and line out connections for that purpose:

https://sweetvinyl.com/collections/f...ucts/sc-1-mini

In my case I have the SC-1 Mini/Phono which has the built-in phono preamp but which I bypass as I prefer the Einstein Little Big Phono and the Benz Lukascheck PP1 in my main system. The only reason I opted for the Phono version is because I believe it was worth the extra $500 in case I decide at one point to upgrade to their SC-1 Plus or SC-2 Plus (they have the additional floor noise removal feature and ripping/digitizing in case of the SC-2) then I can move the SC-1 to my secondary system, without the need of an additional phono box.

I found the SweetVinyl algo to be pretty efficient at removing clicks & pops, without altering the sound quality of the analog rig.

Here's the link to Michael Fremer's review of the discontinued predecessor SC-1:

https://www.analogplanet.com/content...mover-any-good

You will find other positive reviews online.

Best, Joel

If the unit survives that cleaning marathon I can't think of better publicity for the manufacturer and the unit.

I visited the website and saw a sample hookup for the SC-1 Plus. The TT goes into the phono preamp, then that goes to the SC-1 Plus, then the SC-1 Plus goes into the preamp line stage. I didn't see any other option. I e-mailed Sweet Vinyl on this, we'll see what they say.

Yes, I double checked my actual connections, you are totally right:

TT -> Phono Preamp -> Line In - SC-1 Mini - Line Out -> Line-Stage/Preamp

Apologies for the mislead!

In case you are ready to forfeit the surface noise reduction function which is offered only on the Plus models then your best option would be to opt for the SC-1 Mini/Phono or SC-2 Mini/Phono, with the built-in phono preamp.

I have attached some shots of the SC-1 Mini/Phono manual showing various connections. Fig 5 - you can also use the Aux/Rec Out from the preamp or integrated amp to the line in of the SC-1 Mini and then the line out of the SC-1 Mini to the Aux/Rec In of the preamp or integrated amp, but I'm bot sure if your C2300 has this feature.

Thanks for the info. I heard from SweetVinyl and they sent me the same info you've posted. The C2300 has an input named "SRVR," and a corresponding output; the output is also labeled "REC" so I suspect it serves the function of a tape loop. I should confirm this with McIntosh to be sure. Getting the SC-1 or SC-1 Plus means extra interconnects, but I have some Kimber Hero and AQ King Cobra around, either of which is comparable to my Transparent Plus. I was considering upgrading the Plus to Super, but that would open a world of complications should I do it and the Super is noticeably better. Money is a bit tight, and I have other expenses looming.

I actually played a record yesterday, and using my VPI-16.5 cleaner, I noticed it took extra spins of the record to completely suck up the cleaning fluid; I had to put the record back on the machine and give it more than the customary 3 spins. I wonder if the 16.5 lost some of its punch. How do I troubleshoot that? Must find the manual and see if it says anything. If this behavior continues it could mean the VPI is on its way out. Hoping not.

Update on the above. It appears the vacuum tube had skewed somehow, and was at a slight angle. I re-seated and adjusted its angle and then cleaned a record yesterday. All was well.

Based on some of VPI's suggestions, maybe I'll turn the machine over and check the insides, which I've never done.
