On almost all my speakers, I got huge improvement in the bass response by replacing the spikes with bearing footers. I use the Pro Audio Bono ones. Maybe you could try them or StillPoints.
These bearings make the bass much cleaner and unboomy.
That will surely not solve all your problems but that is a good start to get a bass as clean as possible.
ESL speakers, full range or hybrid are always pretty touchy to set up. Patience is highly needed.

Thx Jerome! appreciate the kind words. Yea I agree it looks GOOD! I just bought some cord management thingies and plan on doing that this week. Those wires are killing me lol..and killing the look! Going to hang something right above the console there above the components. And planning on some diffusers behind the speakers.

you are going to love theses speakers.. at first i was slightly unimpressed with mine. but after a couple of months everything has greatly improved, including my new electronics. it's tough taking a leap of faith that everything has to "break-in" ,but its so true..good luck

I believe more and more to ourselves getting used to the new sound than in "break in".
We actually really "melt" with our systems with time to the point that listening to a different speaker makes us feeling with very mixed emotions.

Hahahahah ^^ I do believe its a little of both. But getting used to what we just purchased is a big part of the equation.

Sometimes expectations play a role. They did on these ESL 13a's. I expected certain sonic traits but the first day or 2 I thought I made a mistake. Time wears on...more hours and more time just listening.

Something that played a role. To me these are not speakers that are forward sounding or in your face. I have owned plenty of those before. So it took awhile to be 'ok' with the sonic change in the way I listen and what I really wanted.

These are some of the best i've ever heard. My room is bad. But thats a work in progress. No upgrade in cables or interconnects can change a bad room.

Bad room or not I am love the soundstage. Just love it. I want the Neoliths now No I am teasing. WAY out of my $$ means.

Interesting. A good way to determine if things are moving is to have someone listen intermittently and see what they think. I have listened to my Maggie 20.7s change and I have changed their position which moved the sound in a direction and had someone come and listen and ask them what they heard. If it agreed with what I thought I felt it wasn't psycho acoustics

Oh I actually forgot to say this yesterday; but even though I believe that some of the break in is attributed to us getting more comfortable with it I am a believer in real break in.

My girlfriend heard the Martin Logans on day 1-3...but I was in the middle of moving so after that she wasn't around much But the other night came over and we played the same tracks and she was blown away. Was at the 150 hour mark or so...she thought I was full of BS when I said the break in thing.

So there you go. Its real and there's other factors as well.

Update...I reported that the bass output wasn't really where I wanted it to be initially. Not the greatest of room acoustics here. BUT I sent my Audioquest speaker cable back to be shortened and re-terminated with premium spades on both ends. I had a long run in my previous home. Never really liked the Pangea bananas. Just didn't feel secure.

Speaker cable arrived and connected and I thought I had accidentally increased the the gain on the back of the speakers. It was that noticeable. I don't really understand it. You would think that a not so great connection would also affect the whole range of the frequencies.

No placebo. Its real. I have better bass now. Tighter and more forceful.
