My parents have always had Maine coon cats.

They can get much bigger - but this one is quite a good size.

They are wonderful pets - almost dog like. And don't really meow.

I don't think he would be considered an average size.
He is a Big Muscled up Cat.
I saw both his parents and Brother etc. when we chose him to bring home.
He was raised to what is referred to as, (Under Foot).
Not in a production type kennel.

Believe it or not we were actually interviewed by the fellow that raised them.
We did not even get to see tiger and his brother until this fellow was satisfied we would make good parents.

The father of tiger was Huge and I think what contributed to his size was he had all his reproduction male equipment.
His head was much larger than tiger's and I think that was due to him being able to reproduce and having those male hormones.
His father was like I said a huge cat but very-very friendly.
We were taken into a separate bedroom and allowed to visit with his dad and play with him.
I'm sure if someone was looking at the expressions on both our faces when that bedroom door was opened and we saw the dad it would have been priceless in a picture.
That Maine Coon was just a Big Cat but was such a friendly one we could not believe it.

There were lots of Maine Coon cats in separate rooms in the house.
All of them were very large but everyone of them friendly.

Then after we got the full interview and got to actually visit with all the Maine Coon cats.

We were taken into another room and guess what was up under the bed we were sitting on ?
That's right two tiny little balls of cotton Maine Coon Kittens.
And one of them ran out from under the bed and attacked my shoe strings.

Decision was made instantly and a little ball of cotton later named (Tiger) got a ride home with his new parents.

Your right the Maine Coon does not (Meow).

My Maine Coon (now passed) would make a noise like something between a quiet squawk and a meow; it's a pretty unique sound. They (Maine Coons) are so dignified and unruffled compared to most cats, even though they will get very playful at times.

I remember some of the breeders having year old MCs and they were only a year old.

They were right in my backyard when I was living in the mountain bushes of the Okanagan.
...Steep rough rocky cliffs, and food in abundance (deer, wild rabbits, wolves, etc.).

And I worked in the mountains for almost thirty years; so I've seen a few Lynx. ...Up close and personal.

I simply mentioned a certain resemblance; not full size. ...Young sized Lynx perhaps.

Their way of talking to us is not at all like we think of other cats.

I actually don't know what the sound is they make but is is not any type of traditional MEOW for sure.

Tiger still will chase a cotton mouse I have attached to a strip going to a small fishing pole.
He is Super-Quick.
His size I think would fool people thinking he would not be as Fast as he can be if he chooses.

He is now 12 years old now.

He always knows exactly where I am in the house.
And even will chirp at the door leading up to the HT to come up there and hang out with me.

I don't have any knowledge of the size of a Lynx.
I would think and this is only an opinion that a Lynx would be twice tiger's size.

I have read where people have attempted to have the Lynx as a pet.
Very bad idea for the majority of those that have tried it.

I think from the pictures below you can see
why tiger is bonded to me.

These pictures go back 12-years.

The two first pictures were sent to us from the breeder.

tiger ate all the time when we got him home.
He grew very-very-fast.

Guys look close through the windows.
That is a 14' Paraclipse Satellite Dish.
It was the largest dish the dealer had ever installed for a customer.
I had it for many-many-years.
