New Retro Nikon Camera
According to several sites Nikon will be following a recent trend and releasing a retro looking digital camera called the DF. The sites suggest this camera might look like a F3.
Here is a photo from Nikon Rumors. |

Jim, If you took that picture, you either need to clean your lens or turn on your auto-focus! Sure hope Puma Cat doesn't see your awful picture!

That is an awful picture, but the rumors about the Nikon is that it may be based on a Nikon FM2.

This is the original that someone blew up to try and better show what it might look like. Nikon hasn't released a photo yet, just teasers.

I think they should have made it more like the F3 with the motor drive attached so there would be the same super-sized battery that goes into the D3X. It would also be nice having the GP-1 built in so I wouldn't have to take notes where I was when I took a photo.

Not for me. I had the D3 and sold it. Just too bulky for normal shooting. |

Also, the trend these days is for more compact cameras and lenses, not bigger, heavier ones. I can't tell you the number of pros that are moving to M4/3, APS-C (e.g. the Fujis and Sonys) these days because they are *really* tired of hauling heavy (pro) gear around. It's one thing for an amateur to take their "pro" SLR out for an afternoon out. It's another when you have to shlep a full pro kit, including big, heavy glass, over hill and dale at a racetrack for eight hours a day for three days straight. And with the image quality and performance of these new compact interchangeable lens cameras these days, there's no need to. The only reason i can see carrying a Canon 1D-series or Nikon D3/D4 series pro body around these days is for sports or photojournalism, where you need fast AF subject tracking. Other than that, I don't see any reason to be using a big heavy pro digital SLR body anymore, none whatever. If you want a camera that is the size of what you're talking about, there's always the D4.

Here's hoping they fit a full size sensor like the new D600. I mean if it's going to be retro like a 35mm film camera then it should have a 35mm size sensor!
