Cordless/non air nail gun.
I'm looking for a 16 gauge cordless nail gun. When I was doing the audio room and installing the crown molding it was a major PITA! Now I will be working on some other room that don't have crown and my wife would like this detail in other rooms. Given the fact that I usually work alone and have only two hands I'm thinking it's time for a nail gun. Anyone have any experience or suggestions? Budget around $250 or so with a little extra if a significant step up in quality can be achieved

I would focus on an 18V unit so that you are not having to stop and charge all the time.
The brands I'd consider if I was in the market are Bostitch, Rigid and Dewalt. Sears carries quite the line of nailers and even sells factory refurbed unit which can be a great buy on a great tool at a very nice price. Good luck with your choice!

bizrate and Bostitch state 21 months from date of manufacture so if the package is date coded, I'd pick the one with the most recent date.

As a professional, i don't see many in the trade using them. I don't know why.
We used to have a Paslode but it had this weird hesitation to the trigger. hated it. compressors are so small now especially if you are only driving a finish nailer. Last edited by dirtbag; 05-22-2013 at 09:13 PM.

Compressor
I do quite a bit of 16ga nailing work at my parents house as well as my own. I have to agree with a previous poster and vote for the small compressor (3-6 gallon).
I have a 6 gallon porter cable that costs $89 at the orange box store. A 16ga gun can be found at a price that will keep you under $250 or porter cable sells a compressor and 3 gun combo kit for $289. Unless you plan on nailing where electricity isnt within 100ft (use a 25-100 ft hose) then a compressor is your best bet. You wouldnt want to be working alone and run out of battery juice or have your gas cylinder go empty while holding crown up which can be difficult enough to work with. Not to mention that the compressor can be used with other size nailers for other projects that may arise as well as inflating tires etc, blowing dust and debris out of the way, and a seemingly unlimited number of other uses a compressor has.
