Game Room Speakers
Looking to get some suggestions on speakers for my game room in my basement. It is a 20 X 18 room with 7 foot ceilings. I'm enjoying the McIntosh announced product changes as I was just able to pick up a brand new MC402 at a really great price and was able to negotiate a great deal on a C2300 demo! Should be getting them mid next week. Source will be a MCD500 and I'll be adding a music server in the future.
Looking for some suggestions on speakers under $7,500. New or used are fine with me. Usage is going to be varied. As I mentioned, this is a game room with 3 pinball machines and a Super Chex Hockey (Good kind with the USA vs Russia from the 1980's!). When the kids are down there, they like to play their music loud. When I'm down there it can be for anything from playing the games (need background music), working on the games (crank up the music), or just relaxing and listening to the music. I tend to play lots of classic rock. I own B&W 804 Diamonds in my HT. I have had Paradigm speakers in the past. Would like to expand my horizons and try something new. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Steve

I would look for a nice pair of Sonus Faber Cremona M floor standing speakers in that price range or a or pre owned pair of Sonus Faber Guarneri Memento with a JLsub.

Steve.......You might want to consider PMC, perhaps the OB1i. You might get lucky and find a pair of used EB1i's near that price. Excellent speakers.

Your description of usage has the Klipsch Heritage series written all over it. I'm thinking Cornwall, or if you have the corners available, used Klipschorns.

If they want loud go with McIntosh or PMC - they can handle the bruteforce of kids.

The dealer that bought my EB1i's still has the on the gon for ~7600... He WILL take less.
Amazing speaker for that price. These were in MINT condition when he got them from me and include all of the cool do dads... Check them out... Other than that. I second the idea that the Klipsch Cornwalls would be a great speaker for that use. When I had them with the 402/2200 I was as happy as I ever was with my Mc gear... |

Steve,
Also a pair of LS 360's on the gon for 2800 bucks... Might be one of the best "game room" speakers of all time. While not to final word in critical listening... they can rock, take the power, not too far away, and are black... Hard to beat at that price... |

If I wanted to "rock out" in the game room, they would be my first choice.

They do go low and play loud with very little distortion. And I think that they will take 600 watt peaks, but do not need that to sound real good. I doubt if I ever put the full 75 watts from my amp into them. I knew there was something I liked about them.
