Default Clearaudio Emotion

Well I just ordered a Clearaudio table. An Emotion w/satisfy tonearm. It is an older one but in great shape. It does not have a cartridge, so I am looking for opinions on a good cartridge for it. I HAVE TO STAY UNDER $500. My system consists of a McIntosh MX130 w/built in phono amp, McIntosh MC7150 amp, NODE streamer, and Sonus Faber Chameleon speakers. I mainly listen to country, blues, smooth jazz, and classic rock (no metal).
Thx
Rick

Hello

Clearaudio Performer V2 Ebony MM would probably be at the limit of your budget. Hana EH MC isn't quite as spendy. Grado Platinum 3 and the Soundsmith Otello ES High Output would also be contenders. These are all likely going to sound different. All high quality. I'm sure there are other recommendations. Depending on what you like, you should be able to find something satisfying.

Happy hunting!

It's almost funny, but I am already looking at 3 of 4 you mentioned. I really like the Clearaudio cartridge, except for how exposed the stylus is. I have seen many posts of people damaging them. The Hana EH and the Soundsmith are protected better. Will have to check out the Grado Platinum 3. I haven't had any luck finding anywhere that I can audition them, so it is almost a crap shoot to find one that I like.

Thx

Have you checked with USA Tube in Scottsdale? They may have a couple of carts in your budget to audition. Also, check with Robert Anderson in the classifieds here. He was selling a bunch of cartridges (I purchased one) and may have something that would interest you. As mentioned in your cartridge thread, Ivan handles Grado and the Sonata3 HO would meet your budget.

I had the Marantz TT15S1 which is almost the same table, my favorite cartridge on that table was the Grado Sonata so the Platnium or Opus would be an excellent choice in your price range.

As a Grado dealer, am sure Ivan can come very close to making it happen with the Grado Sonata3. Definitely worth checking with him. Won't be surprised if a Grado isn't my next cartridge.
