At the moment, I am using a Conrad Johnson EV1 phono stage and a Music Hall MMF9.1 with a Shelter 501 (V2 I believe) cartridge. Do you all think that AD50 would be an improvement over the EV1? I have been thinking to eventually change the MMF 9 to a Linn LP12 or Luxman PD 171 turntable.
Sorry if this question is out of line here...
Thanks for the help!
I can't comment directly on either the CJ EV1 or the AD50. They are more likely to sound different rather then one being better. The AD50 maybe quieter since it is a solid-state design. However I am familiar with a LP12 which has it's own unique tonal quality with recent production being more neutral but still having the amazing Linn sound. I would say the LP12 does benefit with a more neutral phono stage when partnered with an Accuphase. You are unlikely to go wrong with the AD50 but it would be best if you could audition it along side your EV1. For context I am using a LP12 with a Lejonklou phono stage and an E270 integrated.

Would it be a good idea to get AD-50 to replace Pro ject Phono RS? I'm happy with the last one but I would like to keep number of boxes at minimum but with no reduction in sound quality.

I just recently got an AD-50 as an upgrade to an iFi iPhono. Major upgrade and dead silent is comparison.

I have only had only piece of vinyl that sounded a bit bright, but that is likely due to it being a Stan Kenton record and the mastering of many of the brass sections during that time period were on the bright side. Everything else has sounded amazing and I haven't even given it the full 50 hours that I like to give new equipment before making comments.

Hi Marvin, for me, ifi3 sounds better, more brilliant, more fun and make less background noise than ad-50. Ad-50 is very accurate, not bassy not punchy, but im a little bit disappointed because of background noise.
