I am 100% committed to playback from files, supplemented by streaming in order to sample releases before buying. At the moment, I have nearly 90,000 tracks.
My buying preference, of course, is of downloads but I do buy occasional physical discs when the download is not available or is, strangely, much more expensive than the physical disc. When the disc arrives (a new one is due Monday), it is immediately ripped and I no longer bother with any pointless disc/file playback comparisons. |

I am also 100% digital downloads and CDs ripped to my iMac. I use Amarra Luxe on the iMac to play the music. I have tried several other software music players like Audirvana, but strongly prefer Amarra Luxe. I use Amarra Play on my iPad to select tracks and adjust the volume. It also use Amarra Play on my iPhone and iPad to play music in my car, outdoors.

I mostly stream now.
Still buy discs occasionally. I stream thousands (!) of hours a year in my practice, supporting a couple of artists I know well. (Same albums in a loop). Sigiswald Kuijken told me that the revenue from streaming went up 200% last year. I think I'm largely responsible for that.

This. 1000% this. I haven't spun a CD for playback in as long as I can remember.

I haven't owned a disc spinner for several years and even prior to that I can't remember using the ones in my Meridian 808v6 or dCS Rossini player. I do not miss the clutter in the least. Also "if" there is a SQ penalty it isn't worth my consideration.

I still have my vinyl rig and 450 LPs as well as about 1600 CDs, SACDs, and DADs, but virtually all of my listening these days is ripped discs and high-resolution downloads sourced from Presto, Pro Studio Masters, Channel Classics, Chandos, HD Tape Transfers, Native DSD, Hi Resolution Audio, and (before they discontinued the service) Acoustic Sounds. I don't stream because I'm a cheapskate.

Yes Kal, but I'm not going to install a 5.2 system in my waiting room. Multi-channel is for our main system.
